members about the budget process. Input obtained that night will be used in a City Council work session
the following evening.
Staff will keep Board members apprised of the Recreation budget as it goes through the process.
BOARD PERIODIC REVIEW QUESTIONNAIRE
Matt Strauch encouraged Board members to read the questionnaire and be prepared to share their thoughts
at the retreat on Monday. The questionnaire will be reviewed by City Council on July 24; Matt, Erin and
Steve Budner will attend that meeting.
YOUTH PROGRAM UPDATE
Registration for summer Recreation programs begins April 19.
In reference to the new Northside Aztlan Community Center, Steve Budner reported that the building will
probably be turned over to us by mid -August. A committee has been meeting to discuss operations of the
new facility, and a marketing group has been formed. A determination has not been made regarding
memberships.
YAC attendance has been declining, but staff is working to inform the public that some programming will
stay at the facility even after the new Northside has opened. Steve described what part of the current
YAC will remain open indefinitely.
OTHER BUSINESS
Mary Jo Berenato will be presenting at the May meeting on "crime and youth — how it affects the
community". A poster will be created and distributed to advertise the event with distribution to
schools and around town. Erin will write a news release, Board members will provide input, and
then it will be e-mailed to Janet Urban for distribution to the Recreation Department's media
contacts. Contact information will be shared with Erin so she can follow up. The Recreation
office phone number will be provided "for more information".
