HomeMy WebLinkAboutHuman Relations Commission - Minutes - 06/09/1969as 40 FORT COLLINS COMMISSION OH HUMAN RELATIONS Commission Meeting June 9, 1969 A Commission meeting of the Fort Collins Commission on Human Re- lations was held at the City Council Chamber, 300 La Porte Avenue, Fort Collins, Colorado, on Monday, June 9, 1969 Present: Mr. Thomas Wilson Mr. Dean Olson Chief Ralph Smith Dr. Parker Preble Mr. Earl Kiely Mr. John Bustos Mrs. Walter Atherly Also: Mr. John David Sullivan (Legal Advisor) Absent: Mr. Joe Coria Dr. James Ragin Mr. John Moore Father Edward Ostertag Mrs. David Landers Mrs. Jesse Godinez Mr. Ralph Braden Since there was no quorum in attendance, the meeting was limited to discussion, reporting and evaluations. Miss Agnes Lilley, a member of the Committee for Development of Human Resources from the League of Women Voters presented the following recom- mendations to the commission: RECOMMENDATION TO THE FORT COLLINS HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION The Human Resources Committee of the Fort Collins League of Women Voters recommends that Mr. Robertson Lapp, Director of the Denver Metro Fair Housing Center be invited to Fort Collins to explain the operations of the Center and advise re- garding the possibility of instituting a Fair Housing Center in Fort Collins. Community groups which would be interested in hearing Mr. Lapp could be involved in planning such a meeting. The League of Women Voters, the Social Action and Concerns Committee of the Fort Collins Branch of the Women's International League of Peace N M and Freedom have expressed interest in exploring possibilities of a Fair Housing Center. Mrs. Albert Madsen, Chairman Human Resources Committee Fort Collins League of Women Voters. This was discussed favorably and the suggestion was made that the Education Committee should meet with the committee from the League of Women Voters to work out details for such a meeting. The By -Laws of the Commission were reveiwed and discussed. Mr. John David Sullivan reminded the group that precautions must be taken not to divulge or make public any information that might lead to a lawsuit for libel, etc.. against the Commission or City. The members should remember the purpose of the Commission and their committee, abiding by the By-laws in all their activities. Mr. John David Sullivan asked if the Grievance and Investigation Committee has been active in 1968. Mrs. Atherly reported that it had been been with monthly meetings or more when necessary, minutes had been kept and necessary recommendations made to the proper authorities. Chief Ralph Smith suggested that the Commission ask the City Manager's Secretary to mail cards to each Commission member a few days prior to each Commission meeting reminding them of the of the meeting.
