Commission Meeting
February 9, 1970
A Commission meeting of the Fort Collins Commission on Human Rela-
tion was held at the City Council Chamber, 300 La Porte Avenue, Fort
Collins, Colorado, on Monday, February 9, 1970.

The meeting was called to order by Acting Chairman, Ralph Braden.
Father Ostertag opened the meeting with a prayer.
By unanimous ballot the following officers nominated at the last
meeting were elected:
Chairman Dr, Parker Preble
Vice-chairman Father Edward Ostertag
Secretary Mrs. W. J. Atherly
Mr. Penfield Tate, the new Human Relations Executive for CSU was
suggested as a new member of the Commission, filling the vacancy left
by the resignation of Dr. James Ragin.
Ralph Braden suggested the Commission re-evaluate its program and
its importance to the City.
Joe Coria, Grievance and Investigation Committee, presented a re-
quest that the "Tony" Martin versus Officer Gordon Gosch case be reviewed
by the Commission. Due to loss of the tape, it was recommended that
copies of the transcript be studied by each Commission member for review
March 9, 1970.

Father Ostertag reported:
1. Reach Magazine was to do a feature article on the CSU Human
Relations Commission.
2. Mr. Earnest Dunbar, Assistant Editor of Look Magazine was to
be present at the University Thursday, February 12, 1970.
3. That Vista workers in the Fort Collins area might be interested
in attending Commission meetings.
4. That a local corporation has been formed for remodeling and
reselling houses to former owners.
Items discussed by the Commission were:
1. Rental Housing Code - William Lopez reported that a code is being
worked on by the City. The Secretary was instructed to ask for
a progress report from the City.
2. The Migrant Housing Code.
3. Problems of sanitation, property value loss and neighborhood
decay brought about by lack of housing code.
4. That the propriety of the use of symbols was not the business
of the Commission.
S. The effect of our schools on human relations.
6. It was suggested the Poudre R1 Counselors be contacted in regard
to the GO Program.
Dr. Parker Preble reported:
1. There were two vacancies on the Commission to be filled.
2. That Section V-B, of the bylaws should be studied so that a
vote for possible deletion of this section may be taken next
meeting.
3. That meeting schedule be considered for revision.
4. That any member having committee preference was free to make
request.
The next meeting of the Human Relations Commission will be March 9,
1970, at 7:30 p.m. in the City Council Chamber.
