Attendees: Barbara Goff, Beth Etter, Pat Lewis, Jill Walusis, Sue Baccari
Commission Liaison: Suzanne Jarboe -Simpson

Liaisons not in attendance: Marjorie McTaggart, Karen Gebhardt
Meeting called to order at 6:38pm by Chairwoman, Barbara Goff.
New member Sue Baccari was introduced and welcomed to the Commission.
The minutes of the November 15, 2006 Commission meeting were approved
unanimously. The motion was made by Beth and seconded by Jill.
The Commission's December meeting was cancelled due to weather.
Announcements
Suzanne announced an upcoming lecture on the Cliff Effect, being presented by Nancy
K. Cauthen, Ph.D., the architect of the National Center for Children in Poverty's research
efforts on employment and social income support policies. The lecture will take place on
January 25`h at 3:30pm at Runyan Hall, University Center for the Arts, 1400 Remington
Street, Fort Collins. The public is invited to attend the lecture, at no charge.
Suzanne will email to the Commission members the media release and flyer.
Suzanne distributed Commission name tags to members who had not previously had one.
New Business
Essay Contest Update — an over view of the contest and process was provided by Barb

Stacey will pick PSD student essays from Cindy Ronan some time after the 2"a
Home school students and students ofaprivate schools have been instructed to submit their
essays to Suzanne at 215 N. Mason, 3` floor.
Pat will call the private schools to remind them about the deadline.
Stacey provided a scoring rubric and essay review teams. These were reviewed.
Review teams are asked to have their scores back to the Commission at the Feb. 21"
meeting.
Winners will be notified by March 5.
P`,)D winners will be recognized at the March 26, 2007 School Board meeting. Stacey is
making the arrangements. She has invited Mayor Hutchinson to attend as well. Stacey
will be asked to forward a copy of the email to Suzanne, who will follow up with Council
staff to make sure he's aware of the invitation.
Beth will check in with Stacey to make sure there's a large enough room available at the
PSD Admin building that can be used for the remainder of the awards event, following
the presentation to the school board. She will also ask Stacey to check on the possibility
of the Commission bringing in some light refreshments for this event.
All winners (PSD, home schooled and those from private schools) will be honored at a
City Council meeting. This has tentatively been sent for April 3, 2007, 5:30-6pm.
(NOTE: the April 3` meeting has been canceled, as this is election day.)
Community Awards for Winners
Jill has made arrangements for a variety of donations from community businesses. She
will pick these up and put together gift bags for each winner. Jill has a copy of a memo,
with the City's Tax ID number which she is providing to those businesses who have
requested it.
Gifts for the Teachers
Barb will make arrangements for flowers to be presented to the teachers at PSD, of the
winning students.
Women's History Month — March
City Council will be asked to make a proclamation at their March 6, 2007 meeting,
designating March as Women's History Month. Beth has a copy of the proclamation from
2006 and will forward it to Suzanne who will get it to the Clerk's Office. Tentative time
is 5:30-6pm.
Marcile N. Wood Award
This award recognizes a community member who's contributions have made a difference
in the lives of Women in Fort Collins. The deadline for applications is March 19, 2007.
The Commission will review the nominations at their March 215` Commission meeting
and notify the winner on March 22 a
Beth has a copy of the application and will email it to Commission members.
Marketing for this award was discussed. Jill agreed to develop the press release and
distribute it to Commission members. Commission members were asked to use the same
press release to publicize this award.
The following assignments were made:
Barb: Fort Collins Coloradoan, 211, HP, interfaith council, PVH, North 40 News
Beth: KRFC, KUNC, CSU, PSD (?)
Jill: not-for-profts that are part of her network, Fort Collins Weekly, Forum, Journey
magazine
The Commission is interested in hosting another radio show on KRFC in April, to
highlight the winner of this award. Beth will follow up with her contacts.
Pat will take care of arranging for a plaque.
The winner, their nominator and a guest will be invited to dinner following the
presentation by City Council. Tentative date and time for this presentation is April 3,
2007, 5:30-6pm. (NOTE: the April P meeting has been canceled, since it's election
day.)
Election of Officers
This was tabled until the February meeting. Offices include Chair, Vice -Chair and
Secretary
Changes to the Commission's Website
This discussion was tabled until the April meeting.
2006 Annual Report
Barb and Beth will compile this report and get it to Suzanne by noon, January 29, 2007.
This will be forwarded to Clerk's office in time for the January 31, 2007 deadline.
New Council Liaison
Karen Weitkunat is term limited and will not be running for City Council in April. The
Commission discussed how to best share their preferences for a new Council Liaison.
Barb will talk with Karen about the best approach.
CSU Liaison
Karen Gebhartd hasn't been able to attend Commission meetings for several months.
Barb will check in with her and see if the Commission should pursue a different liaison
with CSU. Beth will check in some contacts in Women's Studies at the University.
Newsletter
Jill has agreed to check on some potential printers for the Commission's planned
newsletter and bring back some quotes for a 4 page, one color plus black ink.
Commission's Request for a Budget
Suzanne reminded the Commission that their request for a budget was approved by the
Deputy City Manager. The Commission's budget was set at $1,700, per their request.
Jill moved the meeting be adjourned at 8:30pm. Beth seconded. The decision was
unanimous.
