INVENTORY OF FACILITIES/PROGRAMS/POPULATION
Staff member Steve Budner showed Board members the map that had been created showing total
population in each census block, the number of youths ages 0-19, and the percentage of youths to total
population. Lee Swanson suggested that we present the map to Councilman Kurt Kastein at the
regular February meeting. Board members are to consider possible discussion points for the February
presentation.
SPEAKERS SERIES DISCUSSION
The schedule for the speakers series has been set at the Youth Activity Center with dinner and the
regular meeting at 6:00 p.m. followed by the presentation. Steve Budner will confirm the YAC as the
location, and it was suggested by Laura Lamb that we try to transport kids from the Northside Center
to the presentations.

The schedule is as follows:
Wednesday, March 7.... The Job Guy (Lee Swanson)
Wednesday, April 4...... Mr. Schlehuber (gang information)
Wednesday, May 2...... Magistrate Berenato (juvenile justice system)
Laura Lamb suggested, and the Board agreed, that if the Magistrate is not available on May 2 that we
not have a presenter.
Erin Rooney and Kai Stuckey will write a press release to be distributed to the Coloradoan, schools,
etc. Video announcements could also be presented at the high schools. Laura Lamb will work on
drafting flyers (specific to the speaker with a mention of future presentations) and will bring to the
February meeting. Admission to the YAC will be free on presentation nights.
PARTNERSHIPS/LIAISIONSHIPS/CONNECTION WITH BOARDS & COMMISSIONS
Board members are encouraged to review other boards'/commissions' minutes online to keep up-to-
date on items that may affect their population. Matt Strauch offered to stay apprised of City Council
actions.
Matt has also contacted other youth -related organizations for information. Bernadette Felix, probation
officer involved with restorative justice, will provide Matt with data as will Scoot Crandell from
TEAM Fort Collins and Kathy Wright from Boys and Girls Club.
YOUTH PROGRAM UPDATE
Attendance at the YAC has been diminishing, so drop -in hours have been reduced.
Construction of the new Northside Center has been slowed because of the weather. A parking lot has
been built and a new entrance has been added to the existing building.
OTHER BUSINESS
• Matt Strauch met with City Manager Darin Atteberry on December 27 regarding the
UniverCity connection. Planning meetings encourage youth voice, so Matt has suggested that
the Youth Advisory Board plug into this effort. Joe Frank, Ray Caraway and Greg Byrne are
on a steering committee for the university and city connection.
• On a motion by Erin Rooney and seconded by Kai Stuckey, the Board voted unanimously to
make Matt Strauch a liaison to the UniverCity connection and report to the Board. Meetings
are held monthly, first Thursday.
• Matt Strauch has shared grant knowledge and resources with Hannah Valdez, the City's RAD
Van coordinator.
0 Staff member Janet Urban distributed an updated list of Board members.
