HomeMy WebLinkAboutLibrary Board - Minutes - 06/23/1971Fort Collins City Libr,*Board June 23, 1971
The Board was called to order with all members present. A guest was Mrs. Fickle,
President of the County Library Board.
Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as mailed without formal reading.
Presented to the Board was a plan for use of the bookmobile on Saturdays to help
present a "Summer Circus" by the CSU Summer Repertory Theatre at areas where
presumably there would be an audience of under privileged children. After careful
consideration Mrs. Ronco moved that the request be denied. It was seconded by
Mr. Johnson, and passed unanimously. Reasons for the denial included the fact that
it was proposed to use volunteers for the Saturday operation. Insurance requires
that the driver be a city employee, Also there was no mention of reimbursement by
those in charge. If books were checked out, recovery would be difficult. July 3
was proposed as the beginning date and was not considered as suitable. As interpreted
by the Board (including Mrs. Fickle for the County Board) the proposed program did not
provide for use of the bookmobile which would promote understanding or use of library
service.

A tentative budget for 1972 was discussed. Several items were not final including
the proposal to replace the caretakers with a janitorial service being considered by
the city.
A letter from Pars. Arthur Deines and Mrs. Elliott Ray was presented asking approval
of a "Dial -A -Story" program for small children. Mr. Johnson moved that the ladies
be asked for a progress report at the end of the experimental period. There is to
be no commitment to formal promotion by the Library and the Board has no funds avail-
able for the project. Mrs. Ronco seconded the motion and it was unanimously passed.
Mr. Webber reported bids on the roof repairs were to be opened on Friday, June 25.
The new book arrangement is working satisfactorily, and surplus shelving is stored at
the old car barn.
Copies of the evaluations of new staff members, material from "Public Library Trustee,"
and traffic report for the Library area were presented to those present for their
study.
The July meeting will be on July 14 so the Board may reconsider the budget as it is to
be presented to the City.
