The Board of the Fort Collins Public Library met in regular session at: 7:30 p.m.,
January 19, 1972, in the children's room. Present were Mrs. Sarah Bennett, Mrs.
Louise Ronco, Mrs. Lois Henry, Mr. Johnson, Mr. Watrous, Mrs. Grace Thornburg, and
Mr. Webber.
Minutes of the meeting of November 17, 1971 were read and approved.
Mr. Webber reported very few compaints from the public about the new opening hours,
and the staff reported in writing that the extra hour was allowing them time for thier
duties.
Mr. Webber reported that he taped the radio talks on Tuesday for the following Saturday.
Only two had gone on the air with no reports.
The bequest from Delano F. Scott was $9,000. He had previously given $1,000.
Mr. Johnson moved that the money be placed in trust for the library with the city.
Mr. Watrous seconded the motion which was unanimously passed. Mr. Johnson and Mr.
Webber were appointed to confer with the city officials regarding details.
An agreement for cooperation between the city and county libraries for 1972 was
presented, the form being the same as for 1971. Mrs. Ronco moved it be accepted as
presented. Mr. Watrous seconded the motion and it was passed.
Mr. Webber presented a projection of capital improvement needs for the next 10 years
which had been requested by the City Council. Recommendations were that sources of
basic figures be included and costs of site and site improvement, plus an inflation
percentage.
Mr. Webber also reported another story hour workshop is being planned for this spring.
The tentative date is Tuesday, April 18, the cooperation and cosponsorship of High
Plains System being considered. Mr. Johnson moved approval of this project. Motion
was seconded by Mrs. Ronco and passed.
Congested space around the new books area and possible readjustments of furniture,
books, or shelves were discussed.
The State Library is recommending that the proposal for increasing the record
collection be funded for $5,000.
The first half of the state grant for 1972 has been received — $700.06.
Other duplicated material passed out included the Book Selection Policy (Revised
Nov. 11, 1968), a copy of the report of the cultural subcommittee of J)TT which
includes their recommendations for the library, and a statement of the objectives of
the Audio Visual Advisory Committee of the Northern Colorado Educational Board of
Cooperative Services.
The next meeting will be held Feb. 23, 1972.
