HomeMy WebLinkAboutLibrary Board - Minutes - 07/02/19730
July 2, 1973
The Board held a special meeting on Monday, July 2, 1973 at 7:30 p.m.
to consider two questions. All members were present: Mrs. Bennett
Mrs. Henry, Mrs. Ronco, Mr. Johnson and Mr. Watrous. Also present
were Mr. Webber, Mrs. Thornburg, Mrs.. Davis and Mr. Holzfaster of the
Staff.
First question was to review the reclassification of employee job
descriptions to permit library employes to fit into the new classifi-
cation system of the City Personnel Department. The city system gave a
higher rating (and salary) to the bookmobile driver than to women
employes who, in fact, out -ranked him. Mr. Webber recommended that new
job descriptions be prepared. Mr. Johnson moved that an appeal be made,
to relocate Librarian I in the classification study, Mr. Watrous sec-
onded the motion which was passed unanimously. Mr Johnson, Mr. Watrous
and Mr. Webber were appointed by the President to work on the appeal.
• The second question arose the previous week when City Manager Robert L.
Brunton had called the Board to his office and had raised the question
of whether library employes were to come under the rules, regualtions
and classifications of other city employes and thus be eligable for any
"fringe" benefits. The Staff had elected to be considered city employes.
The problem arose because the City Charter makes the Library Board
responsible for employe hiring and firing, etc. It was unanimously
agreed that the Board approve inclusion of the employes of the Fort
Collins Public Library in the personnel system and classifications of
the City of Fort Collins. The Board notes this may involve possible
conflict and inconsistency with Section 71-3 of the Code of the City of
Fort Collins of 1973.
