HomeMy WebLinkAboutLibrary Board - Minutes - 02/06/19740 0 FORT COLLINS PUBLIC.LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES • February 6, 1974 Regular Meeting Present: Sarah Bennett, President; David Watrous, Vice President; Lois Henry, Secretary; Wilson Wilmarth; Louise Ronco, Ex-officio. Absent: Frank Johnson, Jr. Staff present: Larry Webber, Director; Jane Davis, Assistant Director; Carol Grasmick; Robert Holzfaster. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. Minutes of the January 6th meeting were distributed and approved as printed. The staff reported that the closing of the library during the week of January 21st for the purposes of inventory had been cooperatively accepted by library patrons. Seven volunteers, fifteen full;and four part-time employees put in a total of 758 hours to complete the inventory. 222 shelf cards were replaced (books in hand), 73 books were reinstated (new card typed, books in hand), and 183 books were discarded. Tabulation to date indicates some 9,600 volumes of fiction with about 920 missing. �• Copies of two letters concerning population projections for use of Rohlf and Associates were provided. Mrs. Bennett's to City Manager Robert Brunton re- ferred to the action of the Board at the January 6th meeting. The other from City Planner Bill Kane to Assistant City Manager Mike DiTullio which agreed that the Board's estimate of a 1995 population of 140,00 was reasonable, even a bit conservative. No information was available concerning the possibility of renting old R.E.A. building for use during building construction time. A tabulation of the in-house survey on possible site choices showed the pre- sent location preferred by most of those persons responding to the question - airs. Jane Davis reported that two couples and one single person were assisting the library with it's services under the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. Mr. and Mrs. John Toliver are working with retirees in rest homes in particular. Larry Webber had prepared a statement of library programs and activities for the City Manager and a statement of "goals and objectives of the Fort Collins Public Library" for Rohlf and Associates. The latter is to be considered by the Board at its March 6th meeting. An application to the State Library, due March 15th, will be made for the pos- 00 sible maximum of $75,000.00 from federal funds. This money might be used for consultant fees, etc. Mi�R 8 i �74 CITY MANAGER Mr. Webber announced several series of lectures planned for the spring, all to be held at the First United Methodist Church on Tuesday evenings. He also an- nounced that Bill Barker, KOA Talk Show Monitor, would be the speaker for the Library Week program, April 21st, at Lesher Junior High. The City Manager had requested that in the future eight copies of Board minutes be supplied his office for the City Council and public record. This is now being done.
