PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD
MINUTES -- SPECIAL MEETING
JANUARY 15, 1975 -- 7:30 P. M.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Sarah Bennett, President; Wilson Wilmarth, Vice -
President; Frank Johnson, Secretary and David Watrous. MEMBERS
ABSENT: Robert Burns. STAFF PRESENT: Larry Webber Director; Jane
Davis, Assistant Director and Robert Holzfaster. Lois Henry, former
board member was also present.
Minutes of the previous meeting were distributed and approved as
printed.
Letters and verbal communications received by board and staff were
discussed. Resignation letter by Dick Stevens from DT2 Library
Committee was read.
Sarah Bennett reported on the DT2 fact-finding session on the morning
of January 9th and on the possibility of a coalition committee to
examine the various reports submitted on library site.
Sarah Bennett announced a meeting of the Concerned Citizens for
January 16th. This meeting will be dealing with library site and is
to be an open meeting.
The full library board discussed Mayor Fead's remark at City Council
meeting on January 7th refering to the Library Board's site report.
Mayor Fead: "... we had a recommendation from the Library Board
offered before any of the studies or facts were presented to them,
that it stay where it is." The Library Board wishes to go on record
as pointing out that their report was filed after all reports but
the city staff report.
Sarah Bennett reported on DT2 efforts to set up a foundation to
accept gifts and/or money for the new city facilities.
The board also discussed what to anticipate as the new building
comes closer. Information will be required on meeting rooms.
Library staff will look into meeting room use and regulations at other
libraries.
There was mention of the childrens' cultural center in connection
with the new building.
Larry Webber announced the signing of the contract between the City
of Fort Collins and Everett and Zeigel Architects for construction
of the new library building. He also announced that Everett and
Zeigel would meet with Robb and Brenner on the city hall block
layout. Chronology of meetings between architects, board members
and library consultants was discussed.
