PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD
MINUTES -- REGULAR MEETING
JULY 8, 1986 -- 7:00 P.M.

PRESENT: LIBRARY BOARD -- Christine Kneeland, Lloyd Spawn, Greg Auble,
Susan Kirkpatrick, Catherine Fine; LIBRARY STAFF -- Jane Davis,
Robert Holzfaster.
The meeting was called to order by the President, Christine Kneeland. The
minutes of the June meeting were approved as distributed.
Ms. Kneeland introduced Greg Auble, newly appointed alternate member.
Susan Kirkpatrick, formerly an alternate member, has been appointed to full
membership on the Library Board.
Robert Holzfaster, Administrative Aide, distributed the statistical report
for June. Library use continues to be up over 1985.
Jane Davis, Library Director, reported that 4,300 children had signed up
for the Summer Reading Program. This is about a forty percent increase
over last year.
Ms. Davis also reported that Steve Burkett, City Manager, had done major
reorganizing within the city organization. Lincoln Center, Library and
Parks and Recreation have been grouped and will report to the Office of
Cultural, Library and Recreational Services. H.R. Phillips, Parks and
Recreation Director, is filling this position on an interim basis.
Jane Davis reported that the Mountain Plains Booksellers Association was
donating $500 to the library to buy materials for the Read Up section.
Under Old Business, Lloyd spawn submitted Polly Walter's written report on
the title Forever, by Judy Blume. He gave an oral report. Both
recommended t at t e title remain on the shelf for public use. Lloyd Spawn
moved that Forever, by Judy Blume, be retained on the shelf for public use.
Susan Kirkpatric seconded the motion. All present voted in favor of the
motion.
Susan Kirkpatrick and Christine Kneeland reported on the title Chicken
Licken, by Gavin Bishop. They recommended the book be retained on 1
s-eTFfor public use. Susan Kirkpatrick moved the title Chicken Licken, by
Gavin Bishop, be retained for public use. Lloyd Spawn secon e the motion.
All present voted to retain the title.
Catherine Fine reported on a telephone survey she had done of front range
libraries that have special collections. She reported on the problems they
had encountered with named collections. She moved that the local history
collection not be named the Charlene Tresner Local History Collection as
requested by the Fort Collins Historical Society. There was a second to
the motion. After a short discussion all present voted favorably on the
motion. Christine Kneeland will notify the Historical Society by letter of
the Library Board's decision.
Individual members reported on responses they got from Councilmembers in
discussing dollars budgeted and available for library materials. Board
members will continue to discuss library's materials needs with individual
Council members at every opportunity.
