PRESENT: LIBRARY BOARD -- Christine Kneeland, Polly Walters, Greg Auble,
Catherine Fine, Dan Smith, Virginia Ward; LIBRARY STAFF -- Jane
Davis.
The Board met to discuss their recommendations to Choices '95 Library and
Cultural Subcommittee.
The group is concerned about the service levels as well as need for
additional space to serve the public. There is serious need for both for
continued library growth.
The group decided to use a rating sheet to go through the different service
options discussed at the April 12 meeting and to ask for what is really
needed.
The group chose to look at the following options:
- Joint school/public library
- Reading kiosks
- Mobile units
- Mall location/storefront
- Expansion of Central Library
- Full service branch
- Part of another city facility
Joint school/public library could be a positive thing for summer and
children's programming.
Reading kiosks could serve young adults but is not really a major capital
project. It could, also, serve as a convenient book drop. It is not a
solution but would provide an additional library outlet in the community.
This would not have a big impact.
The question of a branch was discussed and also expansion of the main
library. A branch is desirable because a library outlet is needed in south
Fort Collins. A larger main library is also needed. Adequate funding for
the current library is the first and greatest need.
Ms. Kneeland will put these points into a report for the Choices 95 Library
and Cultural Subcommittee and will report their reaction back to the
members at the regular May meeting.
It was decided to cancel the meeting scheduled with Nancy Knepel on April
26. She will meet with the Board on May 10.
The meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Jane B. Davis
