The group held election of officers. Shari Conley moved that Virginia Ward
be re-elected Chair. Jerry Roselle seconded the motion. All voted
favorably. Virginia Ward moved that Shari Conley be elected Vice -chair.
Anne Ostrye-Macdonald seconded the motion. All voted favorably on the
motion.
Orientation of new members was completed with particular emphasis on how
other libraries are governed. Because Fort Collins is a home rule city the
Library Board is advisory only. Since many, probably most, library boards
are administrative this can cause confusion.
The group discussed expanded library service. Board members see this as
the major question they want to look at over the next twelve months." Using
the library study as a model Board members will develop a process to gather
information and get community input looking at all the issues involved in a
creative way. The Board will work on this project on a regular basis
during the next year.

Virginia Ward reported on a workshop presented by City staff on systematic
development of informed consent. She also distributed copies of the
written materials distributed at the workshop. Board members expressed
interest in learning more about this concept. They asked Jane Davis to
contact Suzanne Jarboe -Simpson to see if that would be possible. Library
staff could also be included. Virginia Ward expressed interest in being
involved in the full three day training at some time in the next few
months.
The group discussed the questionnaire on the senior center. Ms. Davis will
put the Board's responses on the form and return it to Jean Helburg in
Parks & Recreation.
Shari Conley raised the question of the poor lighting around the building
and in the park. She is concerned, especially after the recent stabbing,
that people may become reluctant to come to the library at night. Greg
Auble agreed that he, too, felt this was a problem. Jane Davis will talk
to Parks and Facilities about lighting on the outside of the building.
The meeting adjourned at 9:10 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Jane B. Davis
