HomeMy WebLinkAboutLibrary Board -Minutes -10/09/1990Old Business The group held election of officers. Shari Conley moved that Virginia Ward be re-elected Chair. Jerry Roselle seconded the motion. All voted favorably. Virginia Ward moved that Shari Conley be elected Vice -chair. Anne Ostrye-Macdonald seconded the motion. All voted favorably on the motion. Orientation of new members was completed with particular emphasis on how other libraries are governed. Because Fort Collins is a home rule city the Library Board is advisory only. Since many, probably most, library boards are administrative this can cause confusion. The group discussed expanded library service. Board members see this as the major question they want to look at over the next twelve months." Using the library study as a model Board members will develop a process to gather information and get community input looking at all the issues involved in a creative way. The Board will work on this project on a regular basis during the next year. New Business Virginia Ward reported on a workshop presented by City staff on systematic development of informed consent. She also distributed copies of the written materials distributed at the workshop. Board members expressed interest in learning more about this concept. They asked Jane Davis to contact Suzanne Jarboe -Simpson to see if that would be possible. Library staff could also be included. Virginia Ward expressed interest in being involved in the full three day training at some time in the next few months. The group discussed the questionnaire on the senior center. Ms. Davis will put the Board's responses on the form and return it to Jean Helburg in Parks & Recreation. Shari Conley raised the question of the poor lighting around the building and in the park. She is concerned, especially after the recent stabbing, that people may become reluctant to come to the library at night. Greg Auble agreed that he, too, felt this was a problem.
