Domseif Fay Rhoadarmer Madeleine Wawro PRESENT: LIBRARY BOARD -- Virginia Ward, Jerome Roselle, Sharon Conley, Anne Ostrye-Macdonald, Karen Dornseif, Fay Rhoadarmer, Madeleine Wawro STAFF -- Jane Davis, Robert Holzfaster The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. by the vice -chairperson, Sharon Conley. The minutes of the September meeting were approved as distributed. REPORTS Jane Davis, Library Director, reported that copies of all correspondence had been included in the agenda packets. Board asked Ms. Davis if she had received any response to her letter to Dr. David Hendrix, Superintendent of Schools suggesting library -school district corporation for summer reading, 1992. Ms. Davis stated that she had not yet received a response. Virginia Ward, Chairperson, arriving late because of work responsibilities, took over chairmanship of the meeting. She asked for the September statistical report. Robert Holzfaster, Office Manager, noted that materials circulation was up 10% over 1990. He also noted that fine payments were up 12% over 1990. Library staff had projected that fine payments would drop with placement of the three off site materials drops. Jane Davis reported that the September 13 author programs had been well attended with total attendance at the two sessions of about 120. She also reported that the environmental fair on Saturday, September 21, had been very successful with total attendance around 5000. Shari Conley, Library Board representative on the Library Fund Advisory Committee, reported that the group is planning to send out a fund raiser mailing in mid November. This will be the first major fund raising effort by the committee. Jane Davis reminded the group that Jory Graham and James Galvin, poets, would be at the library on Friday, October 11 at 12:00 noon and at 5:00 p.m. OLD BUSINESS Jane Davis reported that 1992 budget decisions were still in process. The proposed 1992 library operating budget is $24,918 less than 1991. Final budget decisions will be made in November. The group continued work on amending the Library Board by-laws. Ms. Davis distributed copies of a draft of the functions section prepared by the City Attorney's staff. Fay Rhoadarmer distributed copies of the by-laws incorporating changes suggested at the last meeting. Editing continued and a final draft was agreed upon. Fay Rhoadarmer moved the draft be accepted as edited. Anne Ostrye-Macdonald seconded the motion. All votes were favorable. NEW BUSINESS The group discussed community wide cooperative planning for a celebration of National Library Week in April of 1992. Jane Davis has spoken with representatives of the Read Aloud organization. They want to be involved. Ms. Davis will meet with Judy McDonald from the school district and also talk to Joan Chambers at CSU Libraries. Front Range Community College Northern Campus library, Karen Dornseif, Librarian also wants to be included. The Board's goal is to focus attention on all types of libraries in the community. Jane Davis reminded the group that their 1992 workplan is due in the City Clerk's office by November 30. Ms. Ward appointed Anne Ostrye-Macdonald and Karen Domseif to an ad hoc committee to prepare a draft of the workplan for the November meeting.
