Dr. Preble read letter of complaint written by Mr. Mamadou Ba concerning
discriminating remarks made by Officer K. C. Williams of the Fort Collins
Police Department directly to him on Thursday evening, February 24, 1972,
about 11:30 p.m. Dave James made motion that this complaint be given to
the grievance and investigation committee for immediate action and report
back to this Commission at next meeting. Also, that a letter be written
stating that the Commission feels discrimination was made based on facts
thatwe now have. Seconded by John Moore; motion carried.
Miss Pat Gallegos called Mrs. Atherly for permission to appear before
the Human Relations Commission and file complaint against Woodward Governor
Company concerning mandatory dress length. Miss Gallegos reported to the
Commission that Woodward had directed that all dress length would be 1 inch
to 3 inches above knee and no more. If not conformed to, then employee would
be asked to leave. Miss Gallegos felt that this so upset the employees as to
interfere with their productivity. John Moore felt that employers have
right to set down rules of dress for employees. Wally Bujack concurred. It
was opinion of Commission that this was not relative to Human Relations
Commission's jurisdiction.
Parker Preble reported that Federal funds of $2,000 to $2,500 that is
available for Police Community Relations have to be earmarked by March or
April, 1972, or be returned. Dave James suggested a Police "Happiness Is"
party for underprivileged youth. No action was taken.
