FORT COLLINS HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION
May 3, 1973
The monthly meeting of the Human Relations Commission was held in the
Friendship Room of City Hall, 300 Laporte Avenue, Fort Collins, Colorado, on
May 3, 1973.

In the absence of Chairman Baird, the meeting was called to order by Vice
Chairman Luke Long.
David Osborn moved that any specific requests requiring City Council
action, approval or denial, shall be conveyed to the Council by letter from the
Secretary unless the Chairman is specifically required to send a letter. Motion
seconded and carried.
Dr. Preble made a motion that we change meeting dates from the first
Thursday of every month to the second Thursday, due to conflicts with City
Council meetings. Motion seconded by Dave Osborn; motion carried.
Vice Chairman Long advised that immediate action is to be taken by
Mrs. Atherly and John McGraw to have a feature newspaper story written by Suzanne
Huntsucker of the Fort Collins Coloradoan,
Chairman Baird and Luke Long are to work out a proposed budget for the
Commission and present this at the June meeting. John McGraw will assist. This
budget will include estimated costs of a bilingual brochure and possible services
of a professional investigator.
John McGraw advised the Commission of a planning session to be held
on May 4, 1973, from 3 p.m, to S p,m, at CSU in preparation for the education
program to be held May 14 from 1 P.m, to S p.m. Acting Chairman Long urged all
members to attend.

Vice Chairman Long suggested the members of the Commission must
agree by at least a majority on the proposed recommendation for adoption of
the Resolution and Ordinance for Human Rights. Mr. Long then asked each member
present to express his recommendations for such a proposal. The majority
present agreed to recommend the adelâ–ºtion of the proposal, Dave Osborn, John
McGraw, and Bob Brunton will meet with the Boulder HRC to discuss their
Resolution and Ordinance which they have adopted,
Mr. Penfield Tate, former Fort Collins Human Relations Commission
member, visited with the Commission at length regarding the Boulder Human
Rights Ordinance, their successes and problems. He advised several areas and
ways to avoid problems and made many helpful suggestions.
There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned. The next
meeting to be held will be on June 14, 1973, at 7:30 p.m. in the City Council
Chambers.
