HomeMy WebLinkAboutElectric Board - Minutes - 01/28/1998A special meeting of the Fort Collins Electric Board was held on Wednesday, January 28, 1998, in the Light and Power Conference Room, at 700 Wood Street, Ft. Collins. BOARD PRESENT: Jeff Eighmy, Len Loomans, Barbara Rutstein, Richard Smart, and Jim Welch BOARD ABSENT: Bill Brayden and Mark Fidrych. STAFF PRESENT: Ellen Alward, Delynn Coldiron, Bob Kost, Suzanne Jarboe -Simpson, Tom Rock, and Dennis Sumner. OTHERS PRESENT: None. AGENDA: 1. GENERAL MANAGER HIRING PROCESS: Board Members spent this meeting brainstorming criteria that could be used in the development of the General Manager's job description. The following is the criteria that was developed: I. Management: • Seven years senior management and policy experience in electric distribution, transmission and generation. • record of strong cooperative relationships wit governing boards, employees and the community. • Ability to represent the community's interest to joint action agencies, other utilities, regulatory agencies and legislatures. • Strong financial management track record. • Highly competent, effective and professional. • Excellent communication, presentation and public relation skills. • Ability to present complex or controversial issues to employees, public, peers, press and regulatory authorities in a clear, articulate and persuasive manner. • Collaborative work environment. • Effective visionary leader II. Strategic Thinking: • Clear understanding of the issues related to the changing electric industry. • Demonstrated leadership in strategically positioning an organization for successful transition in deregulation and competition. • Demonstrated ability to develop strategies for new utility ventures, e.g., gas aggregation and telecommunication services. III. Public Power: • Strong commitment to and experience in public power. IV. Environment: • Demonstrated record in environmental programs, e.g., renewable energy and demand side management. V. Educational Requirements: • Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university in a technical field. • Master's degree preferred in public administration, or related field. • Administrative experience. -2- This information will be forwarded to the City Manager for his consideration in developing the job description.
