PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD
MINUTES - REGULAR MEETING
JANUARY 8, 1991 - 7:uO P.M.

PRESENT: LIBRARY BOARD -- Virginia Ward, Jerry Roselle; Anne Ostrye-Macdonald,
Chris Bracken, Greg Auble, Kate Erslev;
LIBRARY STAFF -- Jane Davis, Robert Holzfaster.
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by the Chairperson, Virginia Ward.
The minutes of the December meeting were approved as distributed.
Reports
Robert Holzfaster, Administrative Aide III, distributed the December/year end
statistics. Materials circulation totaled 837,732 items, up 6.6% over 1989 and
33.7% over the last five years. Library users made 363,/86 library visits, up
3.8 over 1989 and 15.5% over the last five years. The library collection now
totals 220,165 items.
Jane Davis, Library Director, reported that increased funding had made it
possible to add the following services:
* No fee for video checkout
* Full service on the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday
* Two additional preschool story hours each week
* Twice monthly Saturday programs for children
* Taking libraryprograms out to sliding scale and commercial day cares
There will be continuing expansion of services throughout 1991.
OLD BUSINESS
Jane Davis reported that outside lighting upgrade was still scheduled for
January. The new fixtures are on order.
Board members reviewed the goals, objectives and workplan submitted to Council
in November. All members felt the workplan was satisfactory as subnittea.

Greg Auble reminded the group that his Board term expires in June, and he will
need to be replaced on the Library Fund Advisory Committee. Ms. Ward asked that
the matter be on the April agenda.
The meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
