Alysa Stanton, assistant chair, called the meeting to order at 5:35 p.m. and introduced Ann Azari, newly
appointed HRC Council Liaison, and Susan Szymanski, Latimer County Human Development Department.
Ann Azari spoke to the group about her interest in Human Relations, stating that Diversity in employment
will help to show a more immediate impact on community diversity. She also talked about her past
experience serving in the 70's on the HRC, which included drafting of the Human Relations City
Ordinance. Gary Wells spoke to Ms Azari about mandatory posting of anti -discrimination posters in the
workplace. Colorado does not have such a law. Ms. Azari responded that the Commission should get
materials and facts together when and if they present it to the Council. Stating that her preference is
to recognize the celebration of freedom instead of regulation. However, if this is the direction the HRC
wishes to take, that education of the community should show a positive effect on the workplace,
community andr culture, and that the regulation be necessary for public health and safety.
Community Action Board
Susan Szymanski stated that Gary Wells is resigning from the Human Resource Committee and the
Committee needs a replacement from the Fort Collins HRC. She explained the Human Resources
Committee budget process, asking for a volunteer. Linda Beardsley volunteered to serve on the LCHRC,
replacing Gary Wells.
Elaine Boni further reported that she and Harold Wallace are also members of the LCHRC and the LCCAB,
and that the CAB has had difficulty getting a quorum the past two months. Alternatives to getting
members to the CAB meetings are being discussed, therefore, no report.

at CSU on Monday, April 29. Rudy had invited HRC members and support staff to attend and gave

Beardsley and staff Becky O'Donnell and Jaime Mares. Linda Beardsley was also invited as guest speaker

languages. It was decided to invite Officer Kelly to our next meeting to discuss this issue.
Gary attended the Colorado Civil Rights Commission meeting and spoke to Director Jack Lang y Marquez,
along with other CCRC members concerning the Anti -discrimination poster. It will be discussed at their
next meeting. However it's not one of this year's three priorities for the State Commission. A concern of
the CCRC referred to cost and enforcement.
There was general agreement by HRC members to continue pursuing Anti -discrimination Poster education.
This approach would be initiated by Gary Wells with an outline drafting a procedure to: educate City
Council, educate the Colorado Civil Rights Commission and send letters to educate businesses.
Rickie moved that we continue to work toward the objective of mandatory placement of anti -discrimination
posters in the workplace within the city and across the state. Harold seconded. Passed unanimously.
