FORT COLLINS COMMISSION ON HUMAN RELATIONS
MONTHLY MEETING
May 6, 1971
The monthly meeting of the Fort Collins Commission on Human Relations
was held at 225 Second Street, Fort Collins, Colorado, Thursday, May 6, 1971.

The meeting was called to order by the chairman, and the CSU Human
Relations Commission was welcomed to participate in a joint meeting with
the Fort Collins Commission, and to play the Star Power Game, however
there not being enough in attendance the game was not played. Tyrone
Jimerson, Stan Sepulbeda, Mrs. Atherly and Penfield Tate gave reports on
the Human Relations Commission Seminar held in Denver, Friday, April 30,
1971.
Mrs. Atherly announced a Human Relations Commission Northern Colorado
News Media Seminar to be held in the CSU Student Union, Rooms 203 and 205
on May 19, 1971, 9:00 to 12:00. Mr. Penfield Tate will be the moderator
for a panel discussion.
Mr. Dave James gave a report on the low-cost housing project starting
in Fort Collins. There will be 24 units located at Vine and Shields Streets.
Mrs. Atherly advised that Mr. Reid Pope advised her that he was not
going to re -hire Miss Casteneda, and had closed the file. Penfield Tate
made motion that this Commission write a letter to Mr. Pope advising him

that we will advise Miss Casteneda to file -a formal complaint with the State
Civil Rights Commission, with copies going to Mayor Carson, City Council,
School Board, Mr. Pope and Miss Casteneda, seconded by Luke Long, motion
carried.
The secretary read two letters of complaints written by Mr. Penfield
Tate to Mrs. Atherly. One letter concerning a Mr. Vijay Singh against Quick
Copy. The second letter concerning a Miss Hill against the Sportsman Cafe.
Both complaints were turned over to the Investigative Committee for in-
vestigation and a report will be given at the June meeting.
Ralph Braden brought to the Commissions attention the fact that there
are a large number of workers coming into the area for beet harvest, and
are facing a critical housing shortage.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
