HomeMy WebLinkAbout1991 - Downtown Development Authority - Annual Report9 • 1991 ANNUAL REPORT In 1991, the Downtown Development Authority focused on improving the economic potential of the central business district by: 1. Generating interest in the development of the areas between Old Town Square and the Poudre River by passing, in coordination with City Council, a resolution which emphasized the importance of the River as a community asset and encouraged redevelopment of the Linden Hotel as the first step toward that objective; 2. Verifying the demand for downtown housing. This was accomplished by commissioning a residential feasibility study which showed a two percent overall vacancy rate in Fort Collins and a significant interest for housing of all types located in the central business district; 3. Creating a new land use guidance system for the central business district which included some rezoning but also suggested procedural changes to increase development review efficiency and assistance. The plan will be carried to City Council in 1992; Working directly with the City on a number of issues relevant to the economic climate in the central business district. These included the potential acquisition of the LaPorte/America parking lot, the possible development of an affordable housing project, putting a park on the property at 185 North College Avenue, working toward the creation of an art walk between the Lincoln Center and downtown; 5. Funding several patio dining improvements for restaurants downtown; 6. Continuing the DDA's financial relationship with the Downtown Business Association to ensure continued marketing and promotional efforts in the central business district. Other pertinent 1991 events included the decision to relocate the DDA office from its present location in Old Town Square to One West Contemporary Arts Center, encouraging a downtown location for the proposed new senior center, hiring a new secretary, and retaining the firm of March and Myatt as legal counsel.
