The regular meeting of the Fort Collins Parks and Advisory Board was called to
order by the chairman, Mr. C. W. Peterson, at 720G p.m., January 21, 1969.
The new members of the Board, Dr. Robert Pike and Dr. Alvin Pettine, were
introduced and welcomed. Mr. Bill Steckey, the now parka foreman, was also
introduced.
The Minutes of the November meeting were approved.
Mr. H. R. Phillips reviewed the yearly plan and the 1968 recreation programs.
Mr. Larry James reported that there were 143 basketball teams and 520 people
In the skiing program at Hidden Valley and 1Ao Ildora. Five buses are being
used for the skiing program. The girls' gymnastico program is being started.
Park work in planned for the golf course and Sdora Park. Part of the swimmin
pool floor ie to be recovered with cement, the wooden dock will be replaced with
a =,-opt dock, and lights are to be installed in the dasp end of the pool to
permit night sul awing. This dam is almost finished at Idora Park, the second
phase of underground sprirltlers are to be installed in City Perk, the exterior
of Club Tic* is to be painted, and other maintenance work will he carried out.
Mr. James reported that one player in the adult basketball league had been
ezpalled for the season for disciplinary reasons.
Mr. Peterson pointed out the need to get the drive for a new swimming pool
started.
Mr. Phillips suggested that the Board members make a trip to the Denver area
to see awimmirg pools which have been constructed. At the suggestion of Mr.
Robert Dunn, February 15 was selected for the trip.
Tyr. Dann called the attention of the Board to the fact that all efforts should
be made to protect and prasorve Buckingham Park.
The City of Fort Collins is collecting money on the now ordinance affecting new
residential and comm.arcial developments. This money is to be used for new parks,
and Board members may be asked to au ke reeorimandationa for land to be put under
option for such development. We Stewart Case suggested that a committee be
appointed to mike those recommendations. Mr. Paterson appointed Mr. Case, 14r.
Hay Preach, and Mr. Gary Garwood as members of this committee.
A possible joint agreement to be worked out with the city, am* and the schools
for use of the old stadium and field house complex was discussed.
Mr. Case reported that the Rocky Mountain -Sigh Plains Parka and Recreation
Conference will be held in the COO Student Center February 25-28. The 27th
has been planned as an all -day session for park and recreation commission lay
people, concluding with a banquet in the eventag.

Mr. Phillips reported that he had received a letter from the North Je£fco-
Metro Park District asking our support foT a bill relating to perks and
recreation districts. \
Mr. James suggested that because of increasing numbers of needs for use of
public school facilities, it might be vise to have a Written agreement with
the school district regarding the use of facilities by the recreation
department.
Election of officers of the Board will be held is February. The offices to
be filled are chairman, vice-chairman, and ssaretsry.
