HomeMy WebLinkAboutParks And Recreation Board - Minutes - 04/20/1971_Meeting - - April 20,E 1971 • The regular monthly meeting of the Fort Collins Parks and Recreation Board was called to order by the chairman, Mx . C. W. Peterson, at 7:00 f.M., April 20, 1971 at Council Chambers. The minutes of the March meeting were approved as read. Mr. Chuck Peterson welcomed the C.S.U. Outdoor Recreation students, who were present at the meeting. Mr. Wes Sargent reported on the summer program at Club Tico. Mr. Frank Faucett will be the manager at Club Tico for the 1971 summer program. The club will be open to all teenage youth from 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday through Friday. Activities will include 'pool, ping pong, pinball and dances. Mrs. Donohoe read the motion which was passed at the Community Activities and Facilities Task Force meeting. The motions state that the "Task Force recommends that the Poudre R-I School District and the City of Fort Collins provide an indoor swimming pool as soon as possible." Mr. H. R. Phillips discussed the anticipated costs for operating a swimming pool. Mr. Wes Sargent discussed the recreation programs, which had been offered this past winter. Men's basketball, high school intramurals, women's basketball, Jr. All -American basketball, ski program, Jr. Judo, Adult Judo, Jr, Gymnastics, ice skating, men"s volleyball, women's volleyball, girls' after -school activities, mixed volleyball and the Saturday gym program were all reviewed. Mr. Sargent showed the new brochure which explains all the summer and fall recreation programs. Mrs. Jean Helburg discussed the track meet and activity day which will be held May 8th at Ft. Collins High. The Ponytail softball league, which includes 4th through 9th grade girls, will be held this summer. Enrollment for the Ponytail league was much greater than had been anticipated. Only yy1t5Q0.00 was abudgeted for this program but, since there are already.enough /girls for 20 teams, another $2,352.00 is needed to run the program. Mrs. 'Gladys Eddy moved that the Parks and Recreation Board request the $2,352.00 from the City Council for the girls' Ponytail softball. Mrs. Donohoe seconded the motion. There was a discussion of the fees which are charged for the various recreation programs. Mr. H. R. Phillips reported that Ft. Collins has been asked to host the State International Softball Tournament. The cost of running this tournament has gone up so the entry fee was raised to cover this. Mr. Gary Garwood reported that the new golf course will be open in June and the Clubhouse will be opened soon after that. Questions were answered from the group of C.S.U.
