PAP-S AND RECREATION ADVISORY ROAM) IZETING
MINUTES — November 23, 1971
The regular greeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board was called
to order by the chairmen, Mr. C. W. Peterson, at 7:00 P.M., November 23, 1971.
The minutes of the previous meeting were approved.
Dr. Robert Pike gave a report from the committee which was appointed to study
the feasibility of using Lincoln Jr. High for community purposes. He reported
that this committee is working closely with a committee which was appointed
by the schools to study uses for Lincoln Jr. High. An engineer is studying
all possible uses of the building and this report will be finished in
January or February. Parking, traffic, new buildings in the area, and other
related questions are being considered.
Mr. Wes Sargent reported on the programs which are planned for 1972. A request
by the Square Dance Club to affiliate with the Parks and Recreation Department
was presented. It was moved by Mr. Robert Dunn that the Parks and Recreation
Department not be affiliated with any group, to do registration or promotion,
when the Parks Department has no control over the program. The motion was
seconded by Mr. Don Southwick and carried.
Mr. Andy Tiquet is working on a survey to determine what junior high and
high school stu:ents went to do in recreational activities. Suggestions
f N were mefde by board members that back packing, camping and float trips are
programs which should be considered, since youth interest is high in these
areas.
Mr. H. R. Phillips reported that be will find out if there is a possibility
of using Warren Lake for recreation.
Mrs. Jean Helburg reported that women's fall volleyball is finishing and
basketball will start soon. There was a big turn out for the girls softball
last summer.
Mr. Peterson announced that the following board members' terms will expire
soon: Mr. Don Southwick, Mr. Gary Garwood and Mr. Ray French. Dr. Pike moved
that it be recommended to City Council that all three members be retained
on the 'Parks and Recreation Board. Dr. Al Pettine seconded the motion and

The meeting was adjourned.
