11INUTES OF MEETING
April 18, 1972
The regular meeting of the Fort Collins Parks and Recreation Advisory Board
was called to order by the chairman, Mr. C „W. Peterson, at 7:00 P.11., April
18, 1972. The meeting was held in the Council Chambers at City Hall. Minutes
of the previous meeting were approved.
Mr. C. W. Peterson welcomed Mr. Bob Aukerman and the CSU Outdoor Recreation
students who were present at the meeting.
Dr. Al Pettine discussed the history and the present role of the Parks and
Recreation Advisory Board.
Mr. Wes Sargent reported that the Recreation Brochure for 1972-73 has been
printed. The Trooper program, Mena Lunch Hour Conditioning and activities
of the Golden Age Club were discussed.
Mr. Tom Frazier reported that there has been good participating at the Youth
Club. There will be a dance for the senior high students soon.
Mrs. Jean Helburg explained the playground program which will be held in the
summer. It includes children ages 5 through 12 who will participate in arts,
crafts, singing, games, etc. Ponytail softball will be held for girls in grades
4 through 9.
Ur. H. R. Phillips reported that work is being done on sprinkler systems at City
Park and More Park. He suggested that an effort be made to name the park which
is now referred to as Warren Park. This park has not been officially named.
11r. Gary Garwood reported that a Landscape Tournament had been held at the
Collindale Golf Course to raise money for landscaping around the Clubhouse area.
Approximately $1,000 was raised. Rental golf carts may be available at Collin -
dale Course by the middle of May.
Dr. Carl Jorgensen, City Arborist, reported that he was hired by the City Council
to improve and preserve the city trees. Many of the trees in Fort Collins were
planted in the early 1900's and these trees will be gone in approximately 30 years.
An effort is being made to replant trees to compensate for the ones which will
be gone. Dr. Jorgeasen reported that a nursery has been established near Collin
dale Golf Course and that these trees will be planted in parks and recreation
areas in future years.
Mr. H. R. Phillips presented a report on the systems and methods of funding
open sapee and parklands. This report was prepared by Mr. T. Scott Bates and
?sir. Tony Norris who are students in the department of Recreation Resources.
Mr. Bates and Mr. Morris suggested in their report that a fee of one percent
of the total valuation of each dwelling unit built in the future be required.
They suggested that this money be placed in a special parkland acquisition mad
development fund. The board too no action.
The meeting was adjourned.
