Parks and Recreation Advisory Board
Meeting of October 1, 1974
The meeting of the Fort Collins Parks and Recreation Advisory Board
was called to order by the President, Gladys Eddy, at 7:30 P.M. in the
Parks and Recreation office.
Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as presented.
Mrs. Gladys Eddy commanded H. R. Phillips and the Parks and Recreation
staff for the excellent job they are doing with the Parks and Recreation
programs.
Mrs. Eddy urged the Board to become familiar with the schedule for use
of the now indoor swimming pool. The city will use it part of the day and
the schools will use it part of the day. The Parks and Recreation Department
plans to make an awareness of the uses of the pool through service clubs.
The proposed indoor pool schedule was submitted to the Board. It was noted
that the schools will start instruction in swimming at the 4th grade level.
November 23rd is the target date for opening the pool. It was emphasised
that the schedule for the first year will be experimental. The Parks and
Recreation Department plans to have two weeks of public swimming, before the
total program and schedule are implemented, in order to work out any problems
areas. Parking facilities, landscaping, and the area around the pool are
being worked on.
Mr. Bob Brunton stated that the Human Resource Commission is con-
sidering funding the Northaide Youth Center. He asked the Board to con-
sider whether this is a fragmentation of the existing youth programs and if
the youth center should be funded since the community education concept is
being promoted at this time. Discussion was held and Lela Ryder and Donna
Beard are to act as liaison with the council, Parks and Recreation, and the
Youth Center.
Mr. Brunton stated that the council has asked for more analysis on fees
for the recreational programs. It was generally felt that adult fees should

new building for the Parks, Forestry, and the Park Planner, which is located
by the old city golf course.

the new Lee Martinez Park. The park will cover approximately 70 acres. It
includes plans for four tennis courts, three basketball courts, a baseball
diamond, a large natural area, trails, a shelter area, and a farm for domestic
animals. Members of the Board felt that the plan for this park is excellent.
