MEETING
February 25, 1975
The regular meeting of the Fort Collins Parka and Recreation Advisory Board
was called to order by the President, Gladys Eddy, at 7:35 P.M. in the new
Parks maintenance building. Minutes of the previous meeting were approved
as presented.
Gladys Eddy announced that the Board would tour the new Parks Maintenance
building after the meeting,
H. R. Phillips announced that the outdoor swiMag pool at City Park will be
repaired this year. Tom Frazier said that the cost of the pool renovation
will be approximately $25.000 and the sides and deep end will be redone.
There will also be more concrete around the pool, which will help with the
maintenance. Tom reported that the Community House is being used for a
pottery studio and that gas kilns are being installed outside the building.
These kilns will enable the pottery program to use balk clay.
Virg Taylor gave a report on the many projects, which are being done this
winter in the park maintenance department. Snow removal, landscaping at
the new Parks Maintenance building, seeding the median ors College Avenue,
moving all the equipment into the new Parks building, and cleaning the new
8 acre park are just a few of the many projects the parks men are doing.
Randy Balok reported that the Jaycees and the Optimists want to help with
the park which is being developed at North Shields and Elm St. May 24th
and June 14th will be community work days at the playground. This playground
is about 112 acre in size. Several names were suggested for the area.
Dave Philips moved that the Parks and Recreation Board recommend that the
new playground be called "Freedom Square". Ray French seconded the motion
and it was unanimously passed. This recommendation is to be sent to the
City Council.
Gladpa Eddy asked that the Board members give input and recommendations for
the use of the old Coloradoan building. At the January 28th meeting of the
Board, the members of the Board had asked H.R. Phillips to "proceed to
develop plans for parks and recreation programs to be housed in the old
Coloradoan building and to further enrich and develop recreational programs
by utilizing the space in this building. The first priority is to plan
recreational programs".
Tom Frazier presented a possible design for the interior of the building
with suggested uses for each of the rooms, The Board reviewed each area
and discussed the suggested programs. The following recommendation is a
preliminary statement, which was developed by the Board for further dis-
cussion and refinement.
