FORT 'T.INS PARKS AhD RSCRLIT10N Di+PAR'i`UNT PARKS AD RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD K-eting - May 27, 1975 The regular meaning of the Pars and Re`creation Advisory Board was called to order by the President, Gladys Eddy, at 7: 0 P.M. at the Parka Maintenance Building. Minutes of tha previous meeting were approved as presented. Gladys Eddy announced that regular meetings of the Board are not held duriag the summer. If there xs a need for,a special meeting, Board members will be notified, roard members who have terms which expire in 1975 are Dave Philips, Ray Fzench and Ton Southwick. Those who are interested in continuing as membes:s of the Board were urged to send an application to City Court al. The Parka and Recreation Board is recormaending that the old Coloradoan buil ing be named the "Fort Collins Commnaity Center". Clara Donohoe was asked to send a let'-er to City Council concerning this recomrendation. There will be a wor?: day for "Freedom Square" on June 14th. The Recreation offi&°a will send notices concerning this to the Board Members. Disc:ssior was held conezrning, the naming of parks and playgrounds through- out zhe city. It was felt that naming small areas as parks would fracture the L:ystew of naming parks. :.hese smaller areas should be called play- groureda or pl&!grouad arras osc some name other than park. The Board decieed nut to define which areas are parks and which are playgrounds becaase it is < philosphy and cannot be described easily. Work an the Lee Aartinea Park is progressing. The teemis courts will be put is th:.a ac zer. H. R. Phillips reported that Ise is starting to work on the budget and that --op ?:rioriti,aa would be to complete work in the Lee Martinez and Rolland Moore Parks. Board members were asked to suggest names for the Poudre River Nature Area. "Legacy" and "Frontier Nature Area" were suggested. The Board will decide the name at a later date. Discuosion was held on the activities and events which have been held at the now indoor swimming pool. H. R. Phillips reported that utility costs are extremely high. All summer recreation programs are full or have heavy enrollment. Mike Cathcart has resigned from the Parka and Recreation staff and a new employee will be hired soon. Gladys Eddy reported that the Community Education program is setting goals and objectives and will be applying for some federal funds. Discussion o_a the use of sod!.= lights and the efeact they have on trees and pl-nts was held. 1. R. Phillips will. talk to Stan. Case about these lights.
