Z'arks and Recreation Advisory Board Fleeting MinutePTY MANAGE;,
February 24, 1976
The regular rating of the Parlc.B and Recreation Advisory Board was called
to order by President- Bob Hunt at 7:3V pc on 7abruary 24, 1976. Minutes were
approved. The Recreation Department is not opposed to using the mouth guard
in football but finis i:. difficult to blurry out,. Gladys Eddy suggested that
JAA coaches meet with physicians prior :o the season. It was felt that there
should be a continuio3 discussion on football and that written instructions
should be given to the coaches. Notes of appreciation are to be sent to coach
O'Donnell and Dr. Murray and Dr. beard.
A. Ballfields
Due to the 15% increase of ele 'tr_c^1 rates and the necessity of hiring
someone part-time to turn on lights, the c'apmrtmsnt suggested an increase in
field fees from $10 to $20, field ;.reP--z:Lt:io;; fees from $5 to $10. The field
fee hike will break even on cast :with no profit.. 7t was moved by Gladys Eddy
and seconded by Lela Hyder to adopt this fee sc`:a:ndule. Motion carried. it
was brought out that various service oa:ga;;'. tiosc: are wanting tournaments
which keep city teams from using elite 'ields; z ere is also a question concerning
charging gate admission. Bob Runt stated thAt city-aponsored programs are of
Prim importance, any time unsvhedut hen can be used for outside tournaments.
A motion -was made by Gladys Eddy ,a;•. seconded by Duane Millar that priority be
given to local play, that Parks and !tecreation set tournament weekends and that
no profit should be derived from games, except that -which would go to the city.
Motion carried.
B. S5mmin8 Poo.i
According to Tors Fra.aier,-,reeent fee policy for pool rental during un-
scheduled hours is $25dh+:7_ia• and 504� a person over 50 people. This policy
doesn't cover very large urocp3 such as gxplorer olympics. Staff suggests
that 25% of the gate should go to the city from the vet profits, along with
$200 damage deposit for these apecial events. This policy will create revenue
for the city. A motion was made by Dave Philips and seconded by Don Peters
to adopt this policy. Motion carried..
C. Tetanis Courts
Due to difficulty of obt.-tiniag courts, the near confrontation of super-
vis6r:•iaud players, and disa2tisfar.tion of the public, a court reservation
system has been recommended by the staff for Edore Park courts. .Teas Helburg
explained two places now charge - uoulier and Soul :west Denver. $3 for One
hour from 4.00-9.00 pm has been a+uggeated; probc331y t_ part-time people wild.

this meeting opposed the suggested 1--es as being too high; they also felt it

Motion made by Gladys Eddy and seconded by Dave Philips to charge $3 for 90
minutes from 4:00-10:00 pa was defeated. The staff recommends that charge
be made per court, not per person. A motion was made by Gladys Eddy and se-
conded by Clara Donohoe to charge $2.50 per court for 90 minutes from 4:00-
10:00 pa. Motion carried. To effectively evaluate reservation system,
Mr. Brunton has auggestcd no tournaments be scheduled at Rdora Park. R. R.
Phillips stated that the departak nt's priorities are free play and lessons
with competitive tournaments rating last. Bob HuT�t requested input and recom-
mendations from staff concerning requests by special groups for court use.
D. Bnildinu Use
According to Tom Yrazier, building policies as stated are all right but
the fees are quite high. Deposits are required where equipment is used. The
suggestion of $10 per session, not to exceed 3 hours; thereafter, a day rate,
Is to be charged. It was moved by Clara Dcuohoe and seconded by Gladys Eddy
to accept the building policy, reduce the amount of depoait, and charge fees
per 3 hour session and day session to be established at descretion of staff.
City Park building will have fee greater than $10 per.session due to its large
site. Motion carried.
Clarification of tennis policy was asked for by Torn Frazier. A motion
was made by Gladys Bddy and seconded by Clara Donohoe that all tournament
requests go through Jean Helburg; staff will as;�igra co+�rts for tonrvament
use; there will be no scheduling of lessons for special interest groups.
The meeting was adjourned at 11.30 pm.
