iy je"UTES OF MEETING
Ma; 25, 1976
The regular monthly meeting of the Fort Collins Parks and Recreation
Advisory Boa d was called to order by President Bob Hunt on Tuesday,
May 25th, at 7i40 P.M.
Dwain Miller will calla meeting of the By-laws committee.
Due to go off the Board this year are Gladys Eddy, Donna Beard and Dwain
Miller. Dwain Miller and Donna Beard have re -applied.
According to the Fort Collins Boards and Commissions Manual, three con-
secutive or four absences during the calendar year constitute dismissal
from that Board. Bob Bunt will contact Abel Amaya concerning his absences.
Evaluation of a sliding scale and program costs will probably necessitate
another meeting during the summer before being presented to City Council.
The sliding scale is based on the revenue sharing formula.
Virg Taylor reported on park maintenance. Rains have helped the watering of
grounds, especially since the cut-off of the domestic water supply. The
planting of annuals, seeding and sodding is being done.. Much work has been
done at Edora; two scoreboards have been placed on the diamonds. Gravel has
been placed on the newer medians on South College. Basketball goals are in
place at Lee Martinez Park; tennis courts there will be surfaced in June.
Vandalism in the restroome at City Park has occurred seven or eight time
recently. All fertilizing has been finished. Since there is only one weed
sprayer for all of the city and both golf courses, the department would like
to purchase a second weed sprayer. The Blevins Park area is nearly complete;
the playground will be in by fall.
H. R. Phillips spoke of the progress to date at Lae Martinez Park. The play-
ground and basketball areas will be finished this year. Dedication of the
Arboretum will take place July 4th. The west parking lot will be completed
this year; the east parking lot will be finished at a later date. The ball
diamond is nearly filled, but the fields will not be ready until 1978. The
farm is at a standstill, due to lack of money. The triangle piece of land
(Hutton property) has been purchased.
H. R. also mentioned other areas of concern to the Board. The city pool
surface is being sanded off prior to repainting. There are no results yet
on the arbitration between the city and school district concerning pool use.
The trails program through the city is not moving very fast.
Gladys Eddy asked ab out the possibility of appointing a non -voting member
to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board from the school administration.
The purpose of this appointment would be to serve as liaison between the city
and school district because of the closeness of recreational programs and the
use of facilities. The Superintendenw of Schools should make the appointment.
Bob Hunt will write a letter of explanation to Mr. Don Webber. A copy of
the letter will go to the City Manager's office.
Gladys Eddy attended the Symposium on the face mask. Most of the speakers
on the panel felt the face gear should remain on the helmet; penalties
should be enforced for use of the spearing technique. The panel was com-
plimentary in discussion of the Parks and Recreation football program.
Meeting was adjourned at 9:00 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
DONNA BEARD,
Secretary
