HomeMy WebLinkAboutParks And Recreation Board - Minutes - 06/27/1978MINUTES OF JUNE MEETING HELD JUNE 27, 1978 The meeting was called to order by Vice Chairman Donna Beard at 7:30 p.m.. Others present were Charles Basham, Charles Mayhugh, Ken Nelson, and H.R. Phillips. Minutes of the April meeting were reviewed and approved without correction. The notes from the Public Forum, held on June 1, 1978, were reviewed. Each point raised was discussed,and agreement reached on an answer that could be sent to the individual who spoke at the Forum. Ken Nelson offered to write replies to each participant, addressing their specific concerns. In addition, Charles Basham made the motion that a special recommendation be sent to the City Council asking them to request the Engineering Department to: 1. Repair the sidewalks on the north side of the parking lot and the north and easo'side of the Community Center. 2. To address the curb height problem on the east side of the Center. 3. And to consider planting of trees in the sidewalk area on the north side of the parking lot and the Center, which would continue the effect created with the plantings done with the Downtown Development Project on East Mountain Avenue. Motion was seconded by Ken Nelson and passed unanimously. H.R. reported that a few delays have been encountered at the Northside Community Center, but that completion is scheduled for mid July. Many events have been scheduled at City Park for the 4th of July celebration. The canoe trip at Saratoga, scheduled for July 1st and 2nd has been postponed due to the high water. It will probably be rescheduled for late July. He also reported that the budgeting process is under way. All department heads must have their proposals into him by July 15th, and he must send his final recommendation to City Council by August 1st. All summer projects are going well, and participation is excellent. Chuck Mayhugh presented preliminary designs prepared by his firm on future swimming pool structures for Edora Park. He had three different proposals and cost breakdowns on both open and covered facilities. These proposals will be presented to City Council on July 11, 1978.
