September 23, 1980; and the special meeting of October 1, 1980, were approved
as presented. Janet Sheppard has a correction to the August minutes, which

POLICE DEPARTMENT SAFETY TOWN/PREVENTION HOUSE PROPOSAL
Administrative Assistant, Jerry P. Brown, spoke for Don Showalter and stated
that Don wanted to know if the Board felt his Safety Town/Prevention House
project was appropriate for a park area? Jan Sheppard expressed concern that
it was not. Others expressed the same feeling.
On a motion by Mike ImMasche, seconded by Janet Sheppard, the Board unanimously
voted to endorse the concept of Safety Town/Prevention House, but not for a
City Park area.
BOARD INPUT - 1981 Budget/Moore Park
Chuck Mayhugh reported on his participation (and others) and input into the
public hearings on the 1981 budget. He felt going into the final session that
there was a fair chance to get the Board recommended supplemental requests
approved. Instead, the Council approved the City Manager's recommendations,
denying this Board's requests.
The question was raised regarding whether any response has,.been received -from
Council on our written submission on Rolland Moore Park. Jerry P. Brown stated
that Council has scheduled a work session on November 25, 1980, to discuss the
matter.
OTHER BUSINESS
Valarie Klemne spoke to the Board regarding the reported GAY problems at City
Park. She expressed a desire to have input into any suggested solutions the
Board may try to arrive at, and also stated the concern of the Gay Community
that all of the criminal problems in City Park should not be blamed on Gays.
Chuck Mayhugh advised Valarie and John (Priola) that this Board would welcome
any solutions or suggestions that they or their group might have regarding
this problem.
Doug Dixon informed the Board of the initial steps being taken to organize a
group to offer constructive assistance to the City and the Board on the
softball program.
