The following Committee members were present: Madeleine Wawro, Audrey Ryder, Jean Dietemann, Anne Ostrye-Macdonald, Jacqueline Wallace, and Chip Steiner. Committee Member Absent: City Staff Members Present: Sarah Scobey Brenda Cams, Mike Powers. The meeting was called to order at 10:10 a.m. by the Chairperson, Madeleine Wawro. History A background of the five projects included in the Building Community Choices program was given. Mike Powers reviewed the site selection process and contents of a packet of information containing guidelines for evaluating RFP's and information on two proposals that were submitted, copies of which were distributed to Committee members. A proposal, from Miscio and Stroud, Inc., was for a location at the northeast comer of Lemay and Lincoln Avenues ($1,800,000). The Committee chose not to consider this site because of incompatible uses in the surrounding area, its inability for multiple activities and multi -modal transportation would be a problem. The second proposal was a general one to keep looking at the downtown area with the idea of replacing the present Main Library and not creating another branch at this time. We have 5326.000 to put down in 1998 but can't buy until 2004. The balance is 52.8 million in 2004. If acceptable land is found sooner. the City could probably borrow money to purchase it. If Council adopts the downtown Nlain Library concept, then a 100.000 sq. ft. facility will be built in the downtown area when funding is available. These results will be shared with the Library Board who will assist staff in identifying the pros and cons for each site. An Open House for the public to review sites for all the projects will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 2nd at Lincoln Center. Sub -Committee members were encouraged to attend this event to help gather community input and to review findings with the Library Board at their April 9ch and May 14`h meetings. It is not planned to have another Library Site Selection Sub - Committee meeting. Decisions regarding site selection for the projects will be made at the June "° Council meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 11:40 a.m. Respectfully submitted. Brenda Cams Library Director
