• With no quorum present, following notes were from an informal session.
Officer Dean McWilliams of the Police Department was present to report on
a couple of incidents in the past few weeks involving various nmambers of
the Chicano connurity. Activities ranged from fistacuffs to a couple of
stabbings, requiring police involvenent. Officer McWilliams expressed the
feeling that there may be underlying causes for this unrest and that it
could cause potential problems in the future. His intent in caning to the
Human Relations Con<nission was to make than aware of the situation and to
hear any suggestions they might have regarding ccnuL=ty relations. Officer
McWilliams .was not asking; for any action by the Commissionat this time and
indicated that he would keep the Conaission aware of future activities in this
matter.
Elery Wilmarth reported that Bob Zimdahl's report to City Council regarding
women and minorities representation on City boards and cammissions was very
well presented.
There was general discussion regarding the Police Grievance Procedure and the
Human Relations Commission's role in the Procedure. Sane frustration was ex-
pressed, but those present felt the Procedure was important and should be
continued. Also, those present expressed the need to explore other areas
of police -community relations.
