HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION MINUTES
Regular Meeting - June 10, 1993

A regular meeting of the Human Relations Commission was held on Thursday, June 10, 1993, in the
Council Information Center, 300 LaPorte Avenue, City Hall West
HRC Members present: Elaine Boni, Rickie Calkins, Man Oberoi, Rudy Garcia, Shari Olsen, Harold
Wallace.
Members absent: Arnold Gum, Letty Coykendall, Linda Beardsley.
Guest: Lu Fisk, Commission on the Status of Women
Lt. Pat Kelly, Police Services
Staff Member Present: Becky O'Donnell
I. Meeting was called to order by Rudy Garcia at 5:35 p.m. A motion to approve the minutes of
the regular meeting of May 13, 1993, was made by Oberoi, seconded by Calkins. Yays: All present
Nays: None. Motion carried.
It. Lt. Pat Kelly advised that training for CLP's will be on consecutive Tuesdays, June 22 and 29, from
6:30 to 9:30 p.m. both evenings. Training will be held at Police Services in the Police Training Room,
300 LaPorte Avenue. Letters will be sent to CLP's informing them of training. A Police Subcommittee
meeting was scheduled for June 16 at 1 p.m., Employee Development Conference Room to finalize
training and to discussion the vacancy of one CLP position.
III. A certificate of appreciation was given to Elaine Boni whose term expired June 30, 1993. Elaine
Boni served since July 1989 as an active HRC member and her contributions were very much
appreciated. Elaine will be spending the next year in Canada, on a Fullbright scholarship/teacher
exchange program, and we wish her well.
IV. Subcommittee reports:
Community Action Board: Membership discussed vision of the group.
EEO/AA: The HRC is awaiting a response from City Council.
Committee of Executive Delegation:
Response to Kathy McLeod's presentation last month regarding the Mufti -cultural Advisory Committee.
it's suggested that the advisory group's scope would be limited by becoming an official arm of a
commission because of legalities, etc. Harold Wallace moved to accept the CED's draft letter with
corrections and forward to Kathy McLeod. Seconded by Man Oberoi. Yays: All Nays: None. Motion
passed.

Committee of Executive Delegation:
Revised Ordinance Code: Minor changes made by Attorney's office. Ordinance will go back to City
Attorney, Steve Roy's office for forwarding to City Council.
Voices Video: Rickie Calkins advised the video was presented on May 21 to Larimer Youth Services
staff. Seventeen people were in attendance.
Human Relations Award:
Rickie Calkins showed the new Human Relations Awards plaque which will be placed in City Council
Chambers awards case. An article about the 1993 HRA recipients is anticipated for the July issue of
City News.
V. Old Business: Becky O'Donnell reminded members of the human relations conference on June
24 & 25 in Aurora. Confirmations on attendance should be made with Rudy Garcia by June 21.
VI. New Business: None.
Vii. Announcements: HRC Retreat will take place in September. Commission members are
reminded to bring calendars to set date and location for retreat.
V. Next meeting, July 6th. Meeting adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
