The meeting was called to order at 7:40 p.m. by Bob Zimdahl, Chairperson
in the absence of the Chairperson.
I. Nomination for new officers
Chairperson:
Bob Zimdahl: Nominated by Paul Thayer. Second by Jim Long. Bob
noted he would be unable to attend at least three meetings. The
members expressed the feelings that the Vice Chair would be able to
carry those meetings. Bob was elected by acclamation.
Vice Chairperson:
Karen Mack: Nominated by Jim Long. Second by Barbara Jerman. Karen
was elected by acclamation.
Secretary:
Mary Ontiveros: Nominated by Barbara Jerman. Second by Paul Thayer.
Mary was elected by acclamation.
II. Goals and Objectives
The Commission revised the goals and objectives set at the retreat
of September 16, 1979. The Commission proceeded to formally adopt
the goals for 1979-1980. Please see attachment.
The following Commission members were assigned to oversee the accom-
plishments of goals.
Goal: Appointments by City Council to Boards and Commission.
Members - Zimdahl, Ontiveros
Goal: Police -Community Relationships
Members - Smith, Mack
Goal: Human Needs Served Through the Human Resources Board.
Members - Thayer, Long, Ontiveros, Shoemaker (alternate)
Goal: Accessibility of Human Relations Commission to the Community
All board members to be involved.
111. Other business
A. Commission members decided to drop membership on the Community
Development Citizen Steering Commission.
Reasons were as follows: 1) Steering Commission seems to have
a well rounded group of advisors; 2) they meet the same day as
the Human Relations Commission; 3) Human Relations members are
concerned about spreading themselves too thin.
Motion to drop membership was made by Jim Long, seconded by Don
Shoemaker. Passed. Paul Thayer "nay".
Action: Bob Zimdahl will write letter to Steering Commission
on decision made.
B. Request received by the Handicapped Advisory Committee for support
of inclusion of the handicapped in a tax reduction program.
Action: Human Relations Commission will support request. Bob
Zimdahl will communicate this decision to Mayor Bowling.
C. Request by Ms. Ester Moore to give a presentation to the Com-
mission on community needs per her research through Catholic
Community Services Agency.
Action: Request granted for time to give presentation on
November 8, 1979.
