Retreat minutes were read and section VI A. was amended to read - The members will continue to obtain data on both the Boards and Commissions members and the City employee make up, and initiate action as appropriate. II. All present introduced themselves. III. The members approved by vote the Human Relations Commission retreat will now be an annual meezir.a. IV. Comparable 'north. Nora Carroll introduced Linda Hopkins, Assistant to the City Manager, and Barbara Rutstein, City Councilperson, who presented the concept of a task force on the status of women. It was explained that the task force would initially be a data collection committee. Barbara explained that Council believed the HRC might be the proper commission to handle and oversee the task force. After some discussion it was determined that the HRC was interested in the idea and Paul Loopo, Sam Blanco, Dennis Gatlin and Nora Carroll would like to serve on the task force. Other members of the community will also be asked to serve. The HRC members will meet to determine specific parameters. Human Relations Ccmmission Minutes - Auqust 15, 1934 Page 2 V. Issue of the 14onth: Building Inaccessibility. Nancy Jackson, Chairperson, 504 Campaign Committee and Rosemary Kreston, hirector of Resources for Disabled Students, informed the HRC about the situation with the State Office Building located at 3342 S. `iason Street. Although the situation has been resolved, the problem lies with the City Building Code. Rosemary explained that by ch.=.ngng the City Building Code so that the minimum qualifica- tions enables handicapped individuals to use the building, architects and builders would have to comply. It was moved for the HRC to draft a letter to City Council stating the members feel a review of the City Code is necessary to keep this problem from reoccurring. VI. HRC Award. A time line has been established for the HRC award. Breakfast Presentation: April 24, 1985 7:00 - 8:00 a.m. Selection of Candidates: April 20, 1935 Deadline of Applications: March 20, 1985 VII. Police Sub -Committee. Randy Ross reported that Bruce Glassock, the Chief of Police, called him and invited the HRC members to attend a police training class on facilitation of relationships of Police and 'handicapped individuals. The meeting will be held September 5, 1984, 1:00 p.m., Police Training Room. VIII. Applications for employment with the City of fort Collins were reviewed. IX. Ed Gibbs announced that a one day conference will be held September 14, 1984, 3:00 p.m. in Denver, the State Supreme Court Chambers. The conference will be held to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Fair Housing Law_ X. Next meeting will be held September 19, 1984, at 4:30 p.m. in the Council Information Center.
