Other Business
- Tom Skillman, who was absent during the discussion at a prior meeting, asked

about caddies. Jerry P. Brown said staff is concerned about having
such a program because of the training and supervision required,
potential loss of City revenue from golf carts, the liability, and
attracting too many young people to the Clubhouse. Jeff Boulter said
he would see what participative interest there was with the Collindale
Men's Association.
- Jerry announced that this is the last meeting for members Carl Kansala
and Shirley Adams. He and Board Members thanked them for the service
to the Board. Jerry noted that Carl has attended 36 of 39 Board meetings
since he was appointed in July of 1980, which is an excellent achievement.
- Carl thanked everyone, saying he enjoyed his time on the Board. Shirley
also thanked everyone, and commented she feels the City Council should
give the Golf Board more power to handle the budget and other matters,
even if it requires a Charter change.
- John Drescher commented about the continuing problem of 'slow play',
marshalling, fivesomes, etc. It was decided that this will be an
agenda topic at the next regular meeting.
- Neil Johnson brought up the problem of the use of turf shoes on the
golf course. Both superintendents and golf professionals feel they
should not be allowed because of problems they create. Bill Zech said
many, many other golf courses in Colorado ban them from use. After
further discussion, on a motion by Shirley Adams, seconded by Bill
Zech, the Board unanimously voted their concurrence and support to
outlaw turf shoes from our courses, to be logically enforced by the
golf professionals.
Jerry paid special tribute to Tom Skillman for his outstanding service
as Chairman for the past few years. Board members similarly recognized
him with an ovation.
Financial and statistical reports through May were distributed, as well
as some correspondence.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:45 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Dick Zubradt
Board Secretary
