HomeMy WebLinkAboutGolf Board - Minutes - 06/20/1984CITY OF FORT COLLINS PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT GOLF ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES: Regular Meeting - June 20, 1984 The annual dinner meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. at the Moot House Restaurant by Chairman Tom Skillman. All Board Members were present. The business portion of the meeting began at 8:09 p.m. Agenda Review: No Changes to the printed agenda. Citizen Participation: No citizen participation. Minutes: The minutes of the regular meeting of May 16, 1984, were approved unanimously, as submitted, on a motion by John Drescher, seconded by Eileen Banks. Election of Officers for 1984/85 According to the By-laws, the regular June Board meeting is the designated meeting for election of officers for the next year. Currently, Tom Skillman is Chairman, Eileen Banks is Vice -Chairman, and Dick Zubradt is Secretary. Bill Basow nominated Eileen Banks for Chairman. John Drescher seconded the nomination. There were no further nominations, and Eileen Banks was unanimously elected Chairman for 1984/85. John Drescher nominated Dick Zubradt for Vice -Chairman. Bill Zech seconded the nomination. There were no further nominations, and Dick Zubradt was unanimously elected Vice -Chairman for 1984/85. After discussion regarding the position of secretary, it was unanimously decided to table the election until the next meeting, on a motion by Eileen Banks, seconded by John Drescher. Board Members feel it is time to review the By-laws, possibly looking at alternatives to the June election of officers; filling the Secretary position; and any other changes to modernize the By-laws. Other Business - Tom Skillman, who was absent during the discussion at a prior meeting, asked Golf Advisory Board Meeting • June 20, 1984 about caddies. Jerry P. Brown said staff is concerned about having such a program because of the training and supervision required, potential loss of City revenue from golf carts, the liability, and attracting too many young people to the Clubhouse. Jeff Boulter said he would see what participative interest there was with the Collindale Men's Association. - Jerry announced that this is the last meeting for members Carl Kansala and Shirley Adams. He and Board Members thanked them for the service to the Board. Jerry noted that Carl has attended 36 of 39 Board meetings since he was appointed in July of 1980, which is an excellent achievement. - Carl thanked everyone, saying he enjoyed his time on the Board. Shirley also thanked everyone, and commented she feels the City Council should give the Golf Board more power to handle the budget and other matters, even if it requires a Charter change. - John Drescher commented about the continuing problem of 'slow play', marshalling, fivesomes, etc. It was decided that this will be an agenda topic at the next regular meeting. - Neil Johnson brought up the problem of the use of turf shoes on the golf course. Both superintendents and golf professionals feel they should not be allowed because of problems they create. Bill Zech said many, many other golf courses in Colorado ban them from use. After further discussion, on a motion by Shirley Adams, seconded by Bill Zech, the Board unanimously voted their concurrence and support to outlaw turf shoes from our courses, to be logically enforced by the golf professionals. Jerry paid special tribute to Tom Skillman for his outstanding service as Chairman for the past few years. Board members similarly recognized him with an ovation. Financial and statistical reports through May were distributed, as well as some correspondence.
