PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT
GOLF BOARD
MINUTES: June 24, 1987
The meeting was called to order at the City Park Nine Clubhouse by Vice
President Dan Preble at 7:40 p.m. President Zubradt arrived later.
All Board members were present.
Agenda Review: No changes to the printed agenda.
Minutes: The minutes of the Regular meeting of May 20, 1987 were
approved unanimously as submitted on a motion by John Drescher,
seconded by Iry Wilson.
Citizen Participation: No citizen participation.
City Park Nine Project
Jerry P. Brown updated the Board on the status of the project. Mick
Aller and Dave Lingle of Aller-Lingle Architects discussed details of
the project. The Board unanimously approved four specific items as
follows: 1) Exposed ceiling; 2) Salvage existing wooden paneling
and reinstall as a wainscot; 3) Color scheme and the match of colors
for both buildings; 4) Redevelop patio as an alternate to the base bid,
finishing with golf cleat concrete surface. Jerry commended
Aller-Lingle for their extra efforts thus far on this project.
Junior Golf Concerns
At the last meeting, Dan Preble raised several questions regarding our
Junior Golf program as well as scheduling for Junior High School Golf.
Dan met with Bill Metier to discuss the issues. Dan wants to maintain
three tee times after team cuts. Bill would like to require all kids
to attend one free clinic that he would provide on rules and etiquette.
All Board members agree that only one Junior High School per day should
practice at any one golf course. Bill and Dan will provide a written
recommendation to the Board at a later date.
Jerry said the high schools want to play their matches on Saturdays
rather than Thursdays. This means we charge them $2.00 per player or
$10 per team, whichever is greater. He would like to discourage them
from Saturday play and raise the fees to 50 percent of established
green fees. Dick Zubradt noted that the schools don't want to take
kids out of school on Thursdays for golf and if we charged more on
Saturday they would still have to play any way. After much discussion,
it was agreed to let the high schools golf on Saturday afternoons this
fall to see if there are any conflicts and keep the currently
established fees. Jerry will meet with Poudre R-1 Athletic Director
Ron McClary to discuss the situation.

Collindale Men's Golf Association Request
At the last meeting, the Collindale Men's golf Association again
requested reconsideration to allow them guaranteed tee times for
Tuesday and Wednesday evening leagues. Staff has been clearly opposed
to this request. The Board asked staff to meet with the CMGA to
discuss potential options. Jerry met with CMGA President Jeff Boulter
and they developed a statement. The statement was distributed to Board
members tonight. Staff remains opposed to any special privilege for
the CMGA, and suggested they pay normal tournament rates if they want
to reserve the course. Jeff basically thinks that the men's group
should maintain the current method of 'first come, first serve' which
he feels has been 95 percent successful.
July Board Meeting
Jerry asked Board members if they would like to have their annual
dinner meeting next month at EPIC in conjunction with the Parks and
Recreation Board. There was no positive responses to this suggestion.
The Board instead decided to have dinner at a local restaurant. Staff
will check out the options.
Committee Appointments
President Zubradt wants to create a Collindale beautification and
enhancement committee made up of women's and men's association golfers,
Board members and staff. Dan Preble will head up the committee.
Other Business
- Jerry informed the Board that Horsetooth Road adjacent to Collindale
will be completed this summer. There will be no sidewalk on the
golf course. We will coordinate this project with our Collindale
parking lot resurfacing project.
- Jerry distributed examples of scorecards by Sports Score Company of
Oregon. They want to provide us a one-year supply free of charge.
They sell the advertising. Jerry wants to try this company as an
experiment. There were no objections.
- Neil Johnson discussed the rye grass experiment and Bill Metier
mentioned the goose relocation program.
- Dave Sadler has been honored by the Golf Course Superintendents
Association of America as a Certified Golf Course Superintendent.
He had to work very hard to achieve this title.
