HomeMy WebLinkAboutLibrary Board - Minutes - 12/02/1981CITY OF FORT C 0 L L I N S PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES -- REGULAR MEETING DECEMBER 2, 1981 -- 7:00 p.m. BOARD MEMBERS: Don Morgan, Chairman Lloyd Spawn, Vice-chairman Sarah Bennett Jerry Johnson Christine Kneeland Linda Carbajal Tom Sigl PRESENT: LIBRARY BOARD -- Don Morgan, Lloyd Spawn, Sarah Bennett, Jerry Johnson, Christine Kneeland; LIBRARY STAFF -- Larry Webber, Jane Davis, Robert Holzfaster. The meeting was called to order by the Chairman, Don Morgan. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as distributed. Larry Webber, Library Director, reported that the Larimer County Library Services Board's annual Legislative Breakfast scheduled for Friday, December 4, had been cancelled. The Colorado Library Association is planning on sponsoring a Legislative Day in January in Denver. Mr. Webber also announced that the Friends of the Library had pledged $800 for the film programs March through December, 1982. The Friends will no longer be holding the monthly parties for five -year -olds. However, five year olds obtaining their first library cards will be recognized in some manner. Library staff members are also hopeful that the Friends will contribute funds for the 1982 Summer Reading Program. Library staff and Friends of the Library will be holding the annual Christmas Party Tuesday, December 15, in the Ben Delatour Room. Board members are invited to drop in. Mr. Webber distributed copies of a brochure announcing a City of Fort Collins sponsored Productivity Conference 1/13-15/82 at the Lincoln Center. American Library Association will hold its annual Mid -winter Conference in Denver 1/22-29/82. There will be meetings for library trustees 1/22-25/82. In order to get more of the desired materials into the hands of library users, the library board members suggested that library staff do a survey to determine whether library users are finding sought for materials. Sarah Bennett suggested that the Library Board more actively solicit memorial gifts to the library collection. The Library Board agreed to contact funeral directors and outline the process of designating memorial gifts to the library. -2- Larry Webber announced that he is working on long-range plans for library services in Fort Collins. Jane Davis assured the board members that Altantic-Little Brown would be contacted about the illustrations in the book I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly. The meeting was adjourned. Before the meeting was called to order a tour of Circulation and Technical Service Areas was conducted for board members by David Bagge, Circulation Supervisor, and Carol Grasmick, Technical Services Librarian.
