HomeMy WebLinkAboutLibrary Board - Minutes - 08/10/1982CITY OF FORT C 0 L L I N S PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES -- REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 10, 1982 -- 7:00 p.m. BOARD MEMBERS: Don Morgan, President Lloyd Spawn, Vice-president Sarah Bennett Jerry Johnson Christine Kneeland Linda Carbajal Tom Sigl PRESENT: LIBRARY BOARD -- J. Don Morgan, Sarah Bennett; LIBRARY STAFF -- Jane Davis, Robert Holzfaster, Page Smith. The meeting was called to order by the President, J. Don Morgan. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as distributed. Copies of letters to Caroline and John Haase from the Board President and from Larry Webber, Library Director, were distributed as well as copies of a letter to Larry Webber from Mr. and Mrs. Haase objecting to the library staff's new magazine policy. A letter from Anne Marie Falsone, Colorado State Library, dealing with continuing education for library trustees, was also distributed. The goal statement revision discussed at the July Board meeting has been sent to City Hall. The statement now reads "To insure all municipal residents that library service will be available within three miles of their residence." The Fort Collins City Council has increased the proposed book budget by 517.500 to conform to the formula developed several years ago. The Larimer County Library Services Board budget has been submitted to the Larimer County Finance Department. The bookmobile contract budget and the contract for library service for Larimer County residents budget are up 5% over 1982. The Jail Library budget request is higher in response to the projected opening of the new jail in July, 1g83. The Larimer County Library Services Board surveys are being collated. Data collected from the survey will be shared with the Fort Collins Public Library Board when it is available. The Fort Collins Friends of the Library will hold their first Board meeting of the new year in the conference room at the library on September 8 at 9:00 a.m. The Friends book sale will be October 22-24 at Foothills Fashion Mall. Library staff members are woking on ideas for a grant proposal to the Gannett Foundation for library programming. John PoweP from the Friends of the Library Board is working with the staff as liaison with the Coloradoan. -2- Jane Davis, Assistant Library Director, distributed the library staff's statistical report for July, 1982. The Colorado Library Association annual fall meeting will be held October 22-24 in Aurora. Under Old Business, there was no new information on borrowers fees either for non-residents of Larimer County or non-residents of Fort Collins who live in unincorporated areas of Larimer County, Under New Business, Jane Davis informed the Board members that first-time borrowers at the Library are now only permitted to check out two books, and also that the library staff has designed and is using a complaint form for patron complaints other than about materials.
