HomeMy WebLinkAboutLibrary Board - Minutes - 03/13/1984C I T Y O F F O R T C 0 L L I N S PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES -- REGULAR MEETING MARCH 13, 1984 -- 7:00 p.m. BOARD MEMBERS: Lloyd Spawn, President Christine Kneeland, Vice-president Jerry Johnson Don Morgan Sarah Bennett Tom Sigl Polly Walters PRESENT: LIBRARY BOARD -- Christine Kneeland, Jerry Johnson, Sarah Bennett, Don Morgan, Polly Walters; LIBRARY STAFF -- Jane Davis, Robert Holzfaster. The meeting was called to order by the Vice-president, Christine Kneeland. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as distributed. Jane Davis, Library Director, read a letter from Ken Harmon, Secretary, Board of Trustees, Loveland Public Library, proposing that representatives of the public libraries in Larimer County meet to discuss what, if any, coordinated efforts should be made to address the potential impacts of recent actions by the Larimer County Commissioners related to library services to the County. This meeting has been tentatively set for April 12 at 7:00 p.m. at the Loveland Public Library. Jane Davis and Christine Kneeland will attend from the Fort Collins Public Library. The library director distributed the statistical report for February, 1984. Circulation of library materials as well as building traffic continue above 1983 levels. Ms. Davis also reminded board members that the 1984 lecture and film series begins March 14 at 7:00 p.m. in the Delatour Room at the library. Kenneth Boulding, Professor Emeritus, Colorado University at Boulder, will be the first speacZer. ` Under Old Business, Jane Davis reported that the library services contracts with Larimer County for 1984 had been signed. She also reported that the library first floor remodel project was part of the proposed quarter -cent sales tax for general city capital improvements to go before the voters May 1, 1984. Under New Business, Ms. Davis read a proclamation to be signed by the Mayor of the City of Fort Collins at the April 3 Council Meeting. It will establish April 8-14 as Library Week in Fort Collins. The library director and a board member will attend the April 3 Council Meeting. The Fort Collins Public Library and the Loveland Public Library are going to jointly hire a part-time persop to work on library outreach services for the two libraries. This person will do public relations, brochures, and work with public agencies in both communities. • -2- Brochures dealing with the May tax election will be available in April. The city staff is also preparing a slide show emphasizing the need for these capital improvements. It should also be available in time for the April meeting. The meeting was adjourned.
