PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD
MINUTES -- REGULAR MEETING
MARCH 12, 1985 -- 7:00 p.m.

The meeting was called to order by Board President Lloyd Spawn. The minutes
Of the February 1985 meeting were approved as distributed. There was no
correspondence. The statistical report for February was distributed.
Jane Davis, Library Director, reported that the pre -bid meeting and walk
through for contractors bidding on the remodel had been held that morning
and that all bids are due in at the City's Purchasing Division at 2:00 p.m.
on March 21.
Mrs. Davis informed the group that Charlene Tresner, recovering from a light
stroke suffered January 29, had undergone abdominal surgery March 6. She is
out of the hospital and recuperating at home.
Mrs. Davis also announced that the curb improvements were also out for bid
and that project would begin fairly soon.
Under Old Business, Mrs. Davis distributed copies of the new user identification
policy for inside the building use of library materials staff has determined
are likely to disappear.
Mrs. Davis announced that Polly Walters, an alternate member of the Library
Board, had been appointed to the vacancy created by the resignation of regular
member Tom Sigl in December. Mayor Barbara Rutstein explained to the group
that the alternate position would be filled in June at the time all Boards
and Commissions vacancies are filled.
Under New Business Jane Davis reported that Larimer County Library Services
contracts had been approved by the Fort Collins City Council. The City will
receive $92,580 from Larimer County for provision of library service to out -
of -city residents and $9,258 for outreach services.
The theme for the 1985 Summer Reading Program will be Summer of Discovery
Days. Because of the library remodel project all programs except story hours
will be held in the City Museum.

Library staff has received two requests for reconsideration of a book. The
titles are Deenie, by Judy Blume, and Occult Visions, by Elaine Landau.
Lloyd Spawn appointed an ad hoc committee of two board members, Christine
Kneeland and Catherine Fine, to read the books and reviews of the books and
report back to the full membership at the April meeting. Jane Davis will
write to those individuals making the complaints outlining the process.
