The meeting was called to order by the President, Christine Kneeland. The minutes of the October meeting were approved as distributed. There was no correspondence. Robert Holzfaster, Administrative Aide III, distributed the library statistical report for October. He reported that he now has all 1985 monthly statistics in the personal computer data base and will print-out and distribute them at the December meeting in a format that will be easier to read. Jane Davis, Library Director, reported that the Friends of the Library had made right at $6000 at their annual used book sale. They have committed $4000 to the 1986 Summer Reading Program and S1200 for 1986 films. They have also committed to raising funds for other proposals submitted to them by library staff from other community sources. They have reserved S800 for possible commitment to adult programming after January 1, 1986. Board members discussed the upcoming City change to a program budget format for 1987. All members present felt this would be beneficial to the library. Board members are concerned that materials budget needs be highlighted for the 1987 proposed budget. Nancy Knepel from High Plains Library System will meet with the Board at the regular January meeting to go over library statistics and standards that are available, review the library survey results and help us begin to develop a materials budget request for 1987. Jane Davis reported that the Larimer Video Access Cooperative has moved out of the grant period and is now operating on its own. The video packages are now being moved from library to library every eight weeks and money from the rental fees is being used to add more videocassettes every couple of months. Jane Davis reported that Sally Robinson, coordinator for the library grant, was busy selecting and ordering material, that adult students are being tutored in the library two mornings a week and that a writer's workshop is being planned for January. Under Old Business, Jane Davis read Catherine Fine's report on the challenged book Father Christmas, by Raymond Briggs, to the Board. Jerry Johnson reported on his meeting with Ellen Willis, Library Program Administrator/Children's Services, and reviews of the book were distributed. Both members asked to review the book recommended it be kept on the shelf with Christmas materials in the Children's Area. Don Morgan moved that the ad hoc committee's recommendation be accepted. Lloyd Spawn seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous and favorable. Christine Kneeland reported that the Junior Women's Club project "Our Giving Tree" is now underway. Bookmarks and publicity are being distributed. The Junior Women's Club plans to distribute the information to all school children in Poudre R-1 if possible. Jane Davis distributed a compilation of information received from a library services survey distributed to library users during October. Board members will look through the survey results and discuss it at the December meeting. Two more requests for reconsideration of library materials were brought to the Board. Both items are children's books. They are Tell Me Grandma, Tell Me Grandpa, by Shirleey Newmann, and Hozie's Zoo, by Baskin. Don Morgan and Sue Kirkpatrick were appointed to read these books, read reviews of these books and report back to the group at the December meeting. The meeting was adjourned. Respectfully submitted, Jane B. Davis Secretary Pro-tem
