HomeMy WebLinkAboutCultural Resources Board - Minutes - 02/24/1982r • CULTURAL RESOURCES BOAR February 24, 1982 7:30 p.m. Fort Collins Museum SUMMARY MINUTES Present: CRB - Michael Griffith, Barbara Cain, Colleen Cassell, Jim Weitz Absent: CRB- Pauline Birky-Kreutzer, Jack Curfman, Rosalyn Spencer Staff present: Brian Moroney, Mark Breimhorst, David Siever, Ellen The, --on Edwina Echevarria I The meeting was called to order by Jim Weitz, Chairman. II Agenda change: Item 45, Ratification of Lincoln Center League By-laws was tabled, pending the return of Pauline Birky-Kreutzer. III Staff Reports A. Performing and Visual Arts- Mark Breimhorst & Ellen Thexton 1. There was a $2,200 and $1,400 net gain on "Chinese Magic Circus" and Jury's Irish Cabaret, respectively; "Starbird" (Children's Series) showed a $900 net loss. 2. For the 1982-83 Arts Series season, we will present 8 instead of the usual 9 shows. 3. Next Intimate Gallery exhibit: March 4-30 - Colorado Artists and Craftsmen. 4. Because of the relatively low revenue, due to low admission prices, the Children's Series will probably always be in the "red". 5. Outreach to future adult audiences: a. Exploring idea of obtaining a yearly grant for about 8 season tickets_ for arts -oriented high school students. b. Wanting to expand children's programs in the way of more workshops (i. e., performers holding classes in the high schools). B. Lincoln Center - David Siever 1. The design for the building's exterior sign has been revis.-d to meet the City's sign code. Bidding for work on the project will beg_: when City funds are secured. 2. The remodeling of the Ludlow Rooms is proceeding on schedule 3. Plans are to make April 1 at Lincoln Center a gala evening. Events will include the performance of "The Mikado" in the Performance Hall, the opening of the Japanese exhibit in the Intimate Gallery and the grand opening of the newly -remodeled Ludlow Rooms. 4. Planning has begun for the 2nd annual summer Festival of the Arts. 5. The scheduling for 1982-83 season use of the Performance Hall/Mini-Theatre is complete now and has worked out quite well for user groups. 6. Fund-raising for the Sennheiser Infrared Public Address System for the Performance Hall is underway and is being conducted by t'; , Junior Women's Club, the group in charge of the project. ' Cultural Resources Board, Minutes of meeting of Feb. 2401982t page 2 C. Museum - Brian Moroney 1. Year-end report: Projected number of visitors to Museum in 1981: 28,500. Actual: 27,360 (96% of projected number). 359 tours given last year (120% of projected number). Programs and events (70% of projections). Volunteer hours for 1981: 2,292. Volunteers are used extensively throughout the Museum; one example taking place right now: classifying of the very large mineral collection. 2. Skookum Days will possibly expand to 2 days this summer, due to public interest. 3. The Museum is now actively seeking out and soliciting items for the Museum's collection and has received several useful pieces. 4. In attempting to increase the Museum's visibility in the community, the Museum is exploring some ideas: a. reduced parking spaces immediately in front of the Museum, to literally enhance visibility of the building. b. additional rectangular sign in front, to match the existing one. 5. Boxelder Schoolhouse project a. Bills from Citizen Printing, Eleanor Gale and Barbara Leyendecker have been paid. b. A comprehensive plan for the Schoolhouse restoration will be formulated when Pauline Birky-Kreutzer returns from her trip. 6. The $500. grant from the Victorian Questers, for the Auntie Stone cabin, will be used immediately on necessary carpentry, painting, and the application of a log preservative. D. Historic Landmarks 1. Avery House a. An Easter party for the elderly will be held at Avery house. b. Plans for restoration of the downstairs dining room and the kitchen area of Avery House are progressing. 2. Linden Street Bridge - John Dewhirst of Planning requested that the CRB discuss the question of possible historic value of the old Linden Street bridge, in light of the fact that the Public Works Dept. i.> studying its replacement. Jim Weitz agreed to research the bridge's history IV Issues Identification - In response to City Council's request for input from boards and commissions on issues that the City may have to de-.i with in the next several years, the Board expressed the desire to develo,. financial cooperation and participation in the arts community by Larimer County government. Jim Weitz and Michael Griffith will prepare a letter to Council on this subject and will include in the letter concurrence wi'cn the issues identified by the directors of Lincoln Center, the Museum ana Performing and Visual Arts.
