DISCUSSION ITEMS
IV. Performing Art Center update -
A group of local citizens has begun an effort to place a
tax initiative for the new Performing Arts Center on the ballot in
November. This initiative has to be delivered to the City Clerk's
Office by the end of April. The initiative will also include
funds for a new4oibrary building and upgraaqs and improvements to
the Fort Collins Museum.
Private fundraising for the new Performing Arts Center
begins April 9. Halsey and Alice North of the North Group will be
in Fort Collins beginning April 9 to interview potential donors.
Mr. and Mrs. North will help determine if at least $6,000,000 can
be raised for the new Performing Arts Center.
Volunteers are emerging to head committees directed at
successfully placing the initiative on the ballot and to build
support for passing the initiative. Bruce Hendee and Carol Ann
Hixon will be leading the committee on the Performing Arts Center.
Anna Otto has volunteered to be in charge of gathering signatures
to place the initiative on the ballot. Burns Marketing has
offered their services to help with marketing efforts for the
campaign and Lucia Liley is drafting the language of the ballot
with help from city staff.
The effort to gather signatures to place the initiative
on the ballot will begin in later April. These signatures must be
submitted to the City Clerk's office by the end of June.
V. Review of April Fort Fund Process
Fort Fund presentations for groups applying for support
from Tier #1 (Annual Programming Support) will be held Wednesday,
April 25 at the Lincoln Center. The presentation process will
begin at 4:30 p.m. The Board will hold a brief regular meeting at
4:00 p.m.
Fran Johnson and one other member of the Board will meet
with Rich Harter of the Convention and Visitors Bureau to get his
input on funding from the Tourism Account.
VII. Possible future meeting with CVB and Arts Alive to
discuss economic impact of Fort Fund events -
In conjunction with the Convention and Visitors Bureau
and Arts Alive Fort Collins, a meeting will be held on Wednesday,
April 18 from 7:00 to•9:00 p.m. in the Ludlow Room of the Lincoln
Center to discuss the economic impact of Fort Fund events and to
assist Fort Fund grantees and local arts organizations in
marketing efforts.
The meeting will be led by Rich Harter of the CVB with
the assistance of Rob Knebel of Arts Alive Fort Collins. Mr.
Harter will produce letters of invitation for the meeting that
will be mailed by the staff of Arts Alive to local arts
organizations and Fort Fund recipients for the past year. Mr.
Harter will lead the meeting with the assistance of Mr. Knebel.
Mr. Harter offered to produce a comment card that could
be distributed to all Fort Fund grantees to gather economic impact
information. Staff of the CVB would produce the card, distribute
them to Fort Fund grantees, collect them and calculate the data
received.
Jennifer Beccard brought up the fact that Arts Alive
Fort Collins is gathering similar information from local arts
organizations through an impact study being conducted by Americans
for the Arts. Data collecting for this study is underway and will
continue through the fall. Once collected, the data from this
survey will be sent to Washington D.C. and Arts Alive will receive
information that could be useful to local arts groups in the areas
of marketing.
A quetion was raised as to whethf? the information from
the Americans for the Arts survey could be useful in the marketing
effort for the new Performing Arts Center. It was determined that
the information would not be available until after the marketing
campaign for the new Performing Arts Center was complete.
The Board determined that having two surveys being
conducted at the same time would be too much of a burden on event
participants and Fort Fund grantees so the CVB will not be
conducting a survey at this time.
VI. Possible changes to mission statement -
This item was postponed and will be discussed at a
future meeting in the fall.
VIII. Review of any Past Fort Fund Events -
The Board reviewed final reports from the following
