A regular meeting of the Cultural Resources Board was held on
Wednesday, April 25, 2001 at 4:00 p.m., at the Lincoln Center.
Following the meeting, at 4.30 p.m., the Board held a Fort Fund
Grant Session. The following members were present:
Fran Johnson, Ayleen Burns, Anna Otto, Ann Wilmsen,
Jennifer Beccard and Loren Hooper

Fran Johnson asked staff to make three corrections to
the minutes of March 29, 2001.

DISCUSSION ITEMS
IV. Review of April Fort Fund Process -
The Board reviewed the process of hearing presentations
and making recommendations for funding during the April Fort Fund
grant session for Tier #1 applicants.

V. Perfo0ng Art Center update - •
The new Performing Arts Center was the topic of
discussion at the City Council's Work Session on Tuesday, April
24. Based on their comments at the Work Session, City Council
members are supportive of the tax initiative for the new
Performing Arts Center that will appear on the ballot in November.
Approximately 3,000 valid signatures are needed to
place the tax initiative on the ballot. Signatures will be
gathered between the end of April and the end of June.
Halsey and Alice North of the North Group were in Fort
Collins April 9 through April 20 to interview potential donors for
the private fundraising campaign. Mr. and Mrs. North will help
determine if at least $6,000,000 can be raised for the new
Performing Arts Center.
VII. Letter from Canyon Concert Ballet regarding the
cancellation of the Tchaikovsky Festival -
The Board considered a letter from Canyon Concert Ballet
(CCB) regarding the cancellation of the Tchaikovsky Festival. In
April of 2000, CCB received $3,000 from Tier #1 of Fort Fund for
its annual dance concert season. That season included a
performance of the Tchaikovsky Festival on May 4 & 5, 2001. Due
to unforeseen personnel problems, CCB had to cancel the
Tchaikovsky Festival.
Jennifer Beccard moved that the Board allow Canyon
Concert Ballet to keep the $3,000 in funding for the 2000-2001
season but not allow them to apply for Tier #1 funding during the
current grant session. In the same motion, Ms. Beccard also moved
that the Board ask CCB to apply for Tier #2 funding in June and
January until they can re-establish a history of programming
success.
Ayleen Burns seconded the motion.
Passed unanimously.
During the Tier #1 grant funding session, the Board will
break and hold a meeting with representatives of CCB to explain
this action.

Arts Alive - The weekend of April 28 & 29 will be the
beginning of "Give a Hand for the Arts" campaign to raise money
for Arts Alive.
APP - A new artist has been selected for the Transit
Center project. Public artwork is currently being installed at
the new City Administration Building at the corner of Mason and
LaPorte streets.

May 31, 2001
May marks Colorado Archaeological and Historic Preservation Month. A newly formed
coalition, the Heritage Network, sponsored a Preservation Mixer on Tuesday May 22 at Ciao
Vino! restaurant with tours to the Armory and The Architects Studio. The Heritage Network also
produced a May calendar of events and distributed it throughout the community. The Heritage
Network is a collaboration of public and non-profit organizations working together to raise
public awareness of and support for preservation concerns. The key members include the CSU
Architectural Preservation Institute, Colorado Archaeology Society, Fort Collins Historical
Society, Poudre Landmarks Foundation, Historic Fort Collins Development Corp, Fort Collins
Public Library Local History Archive, City of Fort Collins Historic Preservation Office, Pioneer
Association, Fort Collins Museum, Fort Collins Municipal Railway Society, and the Latimer
County Historic Alliance.
STAFF
Four staff members attended professional Museum conferences in May: three attended the
American Association of Museum's Annual Conference in St. Louis along with Mike Powers,
Director of CLRS; and one attended the Museum Store Association Annual Conference in
Cleveland. These professional conferences help staff stay abreast of new developments within
the field and to see what other Museum's are doing.
Curator John Carr said farewell to the Fort Collins Museum on May 21'. John served as Curator
of Exhibits for almost 5 years and is now spending more time with his family and pursuing new
career goals in the field of living history.
COURTYARD
Cross Concrete began laying the stamped and colored sidewalks and plaza in the Courtyard.
Cross is donating more than half of the materials and labor for the project.

Connie Lane has been hired as the Scheduling Coordinator replacing Jennie
Baran. Connie comes with a wide background in scheduling and coordinating events.
For the past five years Connie has been the coordinator for the Lory Student Center
theatre at Colorado Stage University.
Libby Colbert has been hired as the Public Events Coordinator replacing Evan
Hyatt. For the past two years Libby has been the program assistant for Art In Public
Places. Libby has a masters in arts administration and a bachelors in creative writing and
psychology.
Ilsbeth Kaufman has been hired as the program assistant for Art In Public Places
replacing Libby Colbert. For the past year Ilsbeth has held the position of Admin Clerk in
the Lincoln Center administration area.
Season renewals have been sent for all of the Lincoln Center series and are
currently being processed. New season ticket requests for all series will go on sale during
the month of July.
The first Colorado Dance Initiative, sponsored by the Colorado Council on the
Arts and Colorado State University was held at the Lincoln Center on Friday May 18a'.
The focus of the Initiative was to explore ways to strengthen dance throughout Colorado
through presenting, producing, and education.
VISUAL ARTS:
The paintings of David Griffin will be on display in the Lincoln Center Walkway
Gallery, May 31 through June 27.
The mixed media_ art work of Peter Durst and Amanda Warren will be on display
in the Intimate Gallery June 1 through July 15. Durst's most recent work evolved from
building sculptures in the mountains using trees, rocks, leaves and pine cones. The art
work of Fort Collins resident Amanda Warren is composed of found objects collected
throughout her life.
The work of Alicia Bailey and Sandy Lane will be on display in the Lobby
Gallery, May 26 through July 5`n. Lane's work often starts out a series of drawings that
are combined with photographic images. This new image is enlarged and transferred to
fabric which is then watercolored and finally quilted. Alicia Bailey creates books from a
variety of materials including fabric, measuring tape, photographs, paint, shells, beads
and hand painted paper.
