Two new staff members were hired during the month of December.

since it opened in 1978 as the assistant technical director specializing in

strong background in sound along with the technical requirements required for
thejob.

assistant. Chris resigned to pursue other endeavors. Paul comes to us from
Sylvan Dale Ranch where was a set-up coordinator.
New cushions and upholstery have been installed in the Mini -theatre. The
Lincoln Center design chose the upholstery and the city Facilities department was
the project manager for the installation.
New chairs have been ordered to replace the chairs in the conference area. The

PROGRAMS
The Museum partnered with the Downtown Business Association on the annual Carol Fest and
Community Tree Lighting held on December 7 t .
The Museum was again the host site for the First Night Kid's Countdown on New Year's Eve. After the
Countdown, Philomusica entertained First Night attendees.
NAGPRA (Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation)
The Museum received a federal grant to pursue consultations with tribes in compliance with the
NAGPRA legislation. Brenda Martin, the Museum's NAGPRA Coordinator, hosted two Lakota
representatives from the Rosebud Reservation on January 17. Terry Gray and Tim Soldier viewed the
Museum's Native American collections and human remains and began consulting with staff on the
repatriation process. In April, the Museum will be bringing together approximately five plains tribes to
formally begin the consultation and repatriation process.
STAFF
Staff participated in two vision and goal setting sessions in January. The staff reviewed materials from
the joint meeting between the Museum Advisory Council and the Cultural Resources Board to assist in
the development of a vision. The vision is to be the "First Choice" in the minds of our community and a
"First Choice" destination for visitors. We will strive towards "First Choice" through professionalism,
integrity, and impact. The staff is utilizing this vision for our goal setting, which we will be completing in
February.
EXHIBITIONS
New panels designed by Mark Dodge, the Museum's exhibits designer, were placed on the six windows
on the west fagade of the Museum building. The panels depict the Cache La Poudre River canyon in
brilliant blue. The panels help draw attention to the building, and are a cosmetic repair for the unsightly
condition of the windows behind.
Stealing Home: Playing Ball in the Rocky Mountain League opens February 1, 2002. This scrapbook
exhibit tells the story of the Hispanic baseball teams that dotted the northern Front Range from the 1920s
until the 1960s. These grassroots "sandlot" teams were formed into the Rocky Mountain League in the
1940s.Team photographs, memorabilia, and original team jerseys will be on display. Excerpts from
essays written by former manager, coaches, and players tell, in their own words, the story from beet fields
and ball fields.
