Call Meeting to Order: The regular meeting of the Youth Advisory Board was called
to order by Chairperson Phillip Chavez at 7:26 p.m.
Approval of Minutes: The minutes of May 5, 1999 were approved unanimously (5-0)
on a motion by Steve Hill, seconded by Ki Shih..
Agenda Review: No changes to the agenda.
Citizen Participation: No citizen participation.
Agenda:
EVALUATE YOUTH MUSIC FEST
Attendance at the Youth Music Fest, which was held on Saturday, June 5, was estimated
at 750. The event began on schedule at City Park, in spite of rain, and two perfomances
were held there before the Fest was moved to the Youth Activity Center where it
concluded at approximately 10:00 p.m.
Both Steve Hill and Ki Shih indicated an interest in having the Youth Advisory Board
plan and implement the Youth Music Fest again next year; Ben Brooks, however, would
favor another organization taking on the event. All of the bands who performed have
been paid $50.00.

15ave Mosnik, Youth Activity Center staff member, was impressed with how little trash
was generated at the Youth Activity Center by YMF attendees. Moshing was suggested
to the crowd by the drummer of The Longshots.
FOLLOW-UP ON COLORADOAN TEEN PAGE
Peggy Bowers reported having talked to Bill Leary regarding his conversation with Dave
Greiling of the Coloradoan. Bill has sent a mock-up of a teen page to Mr. Greiling and
will follow up with him at a later date.
SCHEDULE YOUTH ADVISORY BOARD RETREAT
The Youth Advisory Board will not hold regular meetings in July or August. An all -day
retreat will be held instead on Tuesday, August 3; times and agenda to be announced
later.
NORTHSIDE AZTLAN COMMUNITY CENTER UPDATE
Debra Bueno reported that the youth basketball program is starting soon along with
various other summer programs. Some youths are working on the skateboard park to
improve it and would like to add a rail feature.
YOUTH ACTIVITY CENTER UPDATE
Dave Mosnik stated that youth summer employment applications were used to place
teens in summer jobs with a success rate of 30-40% of teens being placed. He also told
the Board about the job board that is posted at the Youth Activity Center and indicated
that 16-year-olds should have little problem getting summer jobs.
OTHER BUSINESS
• Ben Brooks suggested that Board members attend "Promise Colorado" on Saturday,
October 9 in Denver.
Adiournment: The Board voted unanimously (5-0) for adjournment following a motion
by Ki Shih and seconded by Phillip Chavez. The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
