DISCUSS TELEVISION SHOW POSSIBILITIES
Warren Berman from Poudre School District was present to field questions regarding
production of a monthly or bi-monthly local cable TV show. The Board's motivation is
to make the Youth Advisory Board more available to their peers, and a TV show might
be a good medium for doing that. Channel 10 (PSD channel) has a studio but doesn't
have people power to do any shooting off -site. YAB members, following training, could
shoot some non -studio film and Warren's staff could edit.
Mr. Berman reported that a similar show hosted by Ann Azari was attempted last year but
that inconsistent student commitment was a problem. If Mr. Berman could rely on the
YAB to provide the talent, his staff would provide the expertise.

The easiest type of show to do would be a straight studio shoot where 3-4 people are
brought in to sit around and talk about an interesting topic. The topic and discussion
would need to be suitable for TV programming and within the guidelines set by the
school district. If Board members wish to learn how to use equipment or do sets, Mr.
Berman's staff would provide the training.
Mr. Berman cautioned that a scripted shoot with remote footage would require a great
deal of time, and he would recommend only one show per month.
There would be no cost involved. The host duties could be rotated and is an extremely
important role because that person needs to keep things moving and be able to draw out
comments and ideas from panel members.
The Board decided for the first show to discuss "what's important to teens" in order to
generate topics. Fort Collins High School and Poudre High School will be featured on
the first show; the other two high schools will be featured on the next show. Sarah Smith
will host the first show; Robbie Weisser will organize. Mera Geis is in charge of
acquiring guests for the studio portion of the show. Mr. Berman recommended no more
than 6 people (including the host) be on stage for the show. YAB members need to
determine what look and feel they want for the show .... formal seating with stationary
cameras (on tripods) or more casual seating with hand-held cameras.
Mr. Berman also suggested making an outline that would serve as a guide for the
discussion. A cross section of students would be ideal for the panel.
Studio filming will take place on January 30 at 3:30. YAB members who will be
conducting remote location interviews (at FCHS and PHS) will check out equipment and
get trained on Tuesday, January 9 at 2:20. (Update to minutes: Mr. Berman reported
a scheduling conflict on January 30 for filming but offered Wednesday, January 31
or Thursday, February 1.)
Board members will most likely have an informal meeting between January 9 and the
filming date to make sure everything is organized.
YOUTH ACTIVITY CENTER REPLACEMENT
A copy of the letter submitted by Sam Pagni of TEAM Fort Collins to the Coloradoan as
a "Soapbox" editorial was distributed to Board members. Ms. Pagni encouraged Board
members to write letters to the editor in support of the task force's efforts to acquire a
replacement for the Youth Activity Center and to include what they want and/or what
they see as an ideal facility. Board members can call or e-mail her with their questions or
comments.
The task force usually meets at 3:00 on the 3`d Wednesday of each month and Board
members are welcome and encouraged to attend if possible.

Some Board members promised to write letters; some will attend the next task force
meeting on December 13.
STUDENT ACTION AND AWARENESS WEEK
Sarah Smith reported that Student Action and Awareness Week was awesome. There
were workshops every day at Poudre High School with over 100 attending the largest
session. Centennial High School was pleased with the week; Lincoln and Preston were
not too successful.
YOUTH ACTIVITY CENTER UPDATE
The November participation report for the Youth Activity Center was distributed. Some
of the upcoming events include a lock -in on December 22 and 8 ski trips scheduled
throughout the winter. There is some activity planned almost every day during Christmas
break. The YAC basketball league begins in January.
